Ron Paul Places 6th Among British Bookmakers

2008 US Republican Presidential hopeful Ron Paul has solidified his spot as the 6th most likely to win the nomination, according to British bookmakers who have been following the campaigns closely.

William Hill - the second biggest bookmaker in Great Britain - has made Ron Paul a bigger favorite to become President than Fred Thompson, John McCain, John Edwards and Mike Huckabee.

Like with most bookmakers, Al Gore continues to rank among the top 5 in terms of odds despite not making an official declaration to run.  Many political experts believe that the current pool of candidates are very much vulnerable should someone like an Al Gore enter the picture.

It's that vulnerability to has helped Ron Paul's odds in recent months.  While there is a clear frontrunner in the Democratic party for now (Hillary Clinton), the Republican frontrunners have received little fan fare (Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney, respectively).  Mentions of Newt Gingrich jumping into the race have done little to excite gamblers and oddsmakers either.

Ron Paul continues to be the only Presidential candidate having any major impact on the betting odds, even internationally.

Giuliani had odds of 5/1 at William Hill while Mitt Romney was listed with odds of 7/1.

The odds posted at William Hill - a reflection of customer betting patterns - is made all the more interesting since US citizens are prohibited from betting at the UK online gambling establishment.

Ron Paul has been building a following among gamblers for his stance against a law passed last year making some forms of online gambling illegal, including poker.
