Ron Paul Internet Money Raising Campaign Being Called "Tremendous Success"WTSP in Tampa Bay reports that an Internet campaign for Presidential hopeful Ron Paul has been deemed a "major success" in the state of Florida.
On the eve of formal ballot certification for Florida's Jan. 29 presidential primary, supporters of long-shot Republican Ron Paul joined in an Internet campaign Monday to raise money for the Texas congressman, according to that news station.
"The libertarian physician's supporters are using a tactic first popularized by Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean -- the computer "meet-up" -- to raise money and sign up volunteers. As a presidential candidate in 2004, the former Vermont governor catapulted to national prominence with a well-run system of virtual meetings to boost his standing in Iowa and New Hampshire."
Shea Lambert, coordinator of the Tallahassee effort for Paul, said the Big Bend "meet-up" site -- ronpaul.meetup.com/280 -- had about 125 active participants. He said it's not known how much money will be raised for Paul in Florida, but that more than $1 million had been counted nationwide by mid-morning. The meetup site itself would not load at times Monday afternoon due to substantial traffic.
Recent donors were appearing on a banner displayed at the Ron Paul Forums. Over $5.3 million has been raised thus far (with over $2 mil raised on Monday alone). The goal is $12 mil by December 31, 2007.
"Up about $40,000 in the last ten minutes," Gambling911.com reporter confirmed in regard to the money raising efforts for Ron Paul. "This is unheard of!"
Ron Paul betting odds remained at 6-1 of becoming the next US President
