Ron Paul Gains Support Among GamblersRon Paul supporters may be helping to shorten his odds to become the next US President, but has the gambling community, which may or may not have heard of the Texas Republican Representative, taken notice of his campaign?
Momentum for Paul within the online gambling sector is growing among the more hardcore gamblers as is evidenced at the MajorWager.com. Paul has already made it clear to Gambling911.com that he is against online gambling prohibition.
Posters on the popular forum, many of whom are long time professional gamblers, have taken notice of World Sports Exchange slashing odds on Ron Paul from 26 to 1 two weeks ago down to 9 to 1 (or +900) this week, before moving back to +1100 Thursday.
"I think one thing should be noted, that any bookmakers who take large bets on any event, and hence, has a lot at stake, should be taken seriously since they are usually fairly accurate because that's there business," commented one poster on the MajorWager forum by the name of Indio.
"So I would give more credence to a good bookmakers odds than i would a mass media"poll". Especially since mass media moguls hate the thought of a "non sanctioned candidate" having success. The way Fox has tried to discredit Pauls overwhelming successes in 2 text in votes for their broadcast debates is shameful. I mean really, they spend all this time "hyping" their "you can vote for tonights winner" all through their broadcast, and then they discredit their own results when Ron Paul wins by a huge margin. One really needs to think hard about that because it says a lot."
The MajorWager thread on Ron Paul offers an interesting slant on the Presidential candidate from the viewpoint of individuals who may not know much about him, may not care much about him, but - more importantly to Paul supporters - may want to learn more about him.
"The Gambling911.com website enjoys extensive readership from Ron Paul's enormous support base so it is always interesting to read commentary from those not as familiar with him," says Payton O'Brien, Senior Editor of Gambling911. "Ron Paul's impact is now being felt beyond just his core support base."
And as one poster put it, Ron Paul signs are sprouting up faster in Tennessee than signs for that state's own native son, Fred Thompson.
Last week Rep. Ron Paul surprised the Republican field by raising $5.1 million in the third-quarter fundraising cycle, at least 70 percent of it from online donations, according to the Washington Post.
Figures provided by his campaign to The Trail shows that the Texas congressman, who is nowhere near the top of national GOP polls, attracted 17,461 new donors from July to September. (A point of comparison: Aides to Mitt Romney, who leads in the early voting states of New Hampshire and Iowa, said the former Massachusetts governor brought in 23,000 new donors in the third quarter.)
Some 21,642 donors gave money to Paul's coffers last quarter, with the average donation of $94.38 and the median donation of $45.52, said campaign spokesman Jesse Benton.
Unlike the rest of the GOP field, Paul has consistently improved on his fundraising with each quarter.
