"Understandably, neither side apparently wants to incur the online wrath of Paul's passionate parishioners, who scour the Internet around the clock and descend like locusts on any opportunity to praise Paul or right perceived wrongs on any website or blog they can find." One of the better quotes to describe the massive swarm of supporters for the 2008 US Presidential candidate, Ron Paul, from Andrew Malcolm of the LA Times Blog which delves deeper into the massive out-of-control Fox News Ron Paul New Hampshire Debate exclusion controversy. Locusts can cause plenty of damage and that's exactly what Paul supporters are looking to do to sponsors of the 24-hour cable news network if they do not change their ways. Malcolm appears to have caught Fox in a bit of a fib this weekend.
Over the weekend a
Fox News spokeswoman
told Top of the
Ticket that the New
Hampshire Republican
Party was making the
choice of candidates
to participate in
the televised GOP
presidential debate
on Jan. 6 with Chris
Wallace moderating.
She even provided
the chairman's
e-mail: fergus@nhgop.org
to confirm that.
Alas, the chairman
never responded to
us. Fox News is yet to fully feel the impact of this outcry from Ron Paul supporters being that the controversy (perhaps set up in such a way) emerged during a holiday weekend. But alas, following Gambling911.com's New Year's Eve article on this subject matter, Ron Paul supporters indeed began descending upon the site en masse all morning New Year's Day while much of the nation was still nursing their hangovers. His supporters have taken their fury to the News Corp Financial Forums (Fox News parent company) and it remains to be seen what impact their actions will have on the stock price come Wednesday (Tuesday the markets were closed). And here is a little unbiased observation from someone who watches Fox News nightly. While flipping through the channels I happened to come across a snippet of Ron Paul speaking (it looked like one of those Iraqi cell phone video clips). Then came the panel of speakers to discuss what they had just heard. The host, it turns out, was a fill-in for Bill O'Reilly, and yes it was the Fox News Network. When one of the guests mentioned the name "Ron Paul", the host cut in and basically shot Paul down as a "moron" (though he used more descriptive vocabulary). Sure the O'Reilly Factor is controversial and opinionated but personal attacks like the one I witnessed really degrade that network in the midst of a serious Presidential campaign. This isn't Anderson Cooper refusing to say Paris Hilton's name over the air....it's a Presidential campaign. Attack their issues, don't belittle them (especially when they've raised nearly $20 mil in a single quarter). Whether you support the man or not, it's a terrible insult to the American voters, who (thanks in part to the Internet) can see right through such vicious and uncalled for propaganda. ---- Christopher Costigan, Gambling911.com Publisher CCostigan@CostiganMedia.com Originally published January 1, 2007 12:18 pm EST
