For a possible future Hall of Fame MLB player, life seems to be getting worse, not better. Baltimore Orioles slugger Rafael Palmeiro was asked by his team to end his season early because of the distraction he has become to the organization. This is just the latest twist in the saga of a player who had been headed to the Hall of Fame and now seems headed for obscurity. Palmeiro was MLB’s poster boy at the steroid hearings, only to test positive for steroids himself. Now he is he is trying to blame teammate and former American League MVP Miguel Tejada, saying that he might have tested positive from something in Tejada’s B-12 vitamins that Palmerio had supposedly borrowed.

Saying that Stanizol, a powerful anabolic steroid which is what Palmerio reportedly tested positive for, somehow found its way into a B-12 vitamin is like saying that someone could find cocaine in a box of Raisin Bran. Palmeiro, if he had any hopes of getting into the Hall, can pretty much kiss those hopes goodbye as he has fallen from grace faster than Mike Tyson did in the ring against Buster Douglas. It truly is a sad thing to see such a highly respected player lose all of his credibility and to be told by his own team that he is no longer welcome. What is next for Palmerio remains to be seen, but no matter what transpires he has become his own worst enemy and needs to do some serious soul searching before his fans and teammates lose what little respect they still have for him.
