Poker Pros to Watch at 2008 WSOP

So just who are some of the hottest poker players at the 2008 WSOP?  Well, look no further than the 2008 Player of the Year rankings being updated throughout the World Series of Poker compiled by CardPlayer.com.

Throughout the 2008 WSOP and beyond, Gambling911.com will be taking an in depth look at some of the best and brightest stars on the poker scene today, as well as some of the more infamous

Erik Seidel - CardPlayer had this poker pro ranked number one on the year even though John Phan was climbing thanks to his impressive 2008 WSOP performance.  Seidel, who appropriately comes to us from Las Vegas, has amassed $1,965,715 year-to-date winnings.  Seidel made the final table of WSOP Event #14, the $10K Seven-Card Stud World Championship. Seidel, looking for his ninth gold bracelet, finished in fifth place for just over $90K.

Michael Binger - His 2008 winnings are $720,667 to date.  Binger graduated from North Carolina State University before receiving a Ph.D. in theoretical physics from Stanford University in 2006 and has since settled in Atherton, California.

John Phan - At press time, John Phan was among the hottest players on the WSOP circuit having won two bracelets. 

David Chiu - Based in Rowland Heights, California, who has won four World Series of Poker bracelets and is the winner of the 2008 World Poker Tour's WPT World Championship.  He has had 7 first place finishes.

Allen Bari - Bluff Magazine only ranks Bari at 120 on the year.  Card Player has him ranked number 5.  The West Orange, NJ native has life time winnings of $729,470 and he won the No-Limit Hold'em Championship Event 14 at the Borgota Hotel June 24, 2008 walking off with a cool $500,250. 

Dario Minieri - Dario Minieri is a professional poker player from Italy who has won a bracelet at the 2008 World Series of Poker at the age of 23.  He plays for Poker Stars exclusively.  His year-to-date winnings total $979,950, making him the 6th ranked player at CardPlayer.com.

Vinny Pahuja - Lifetime winnings of $466,947 and most of that has been won in 2008.  He finished 2nd at the 2008 Borgata Summer Open.

Michael McDonald - $1,487,214 year-to-date winnings and ranked 8th according to CardPlayer.com.  McDonald comes to us from Waterloo, Canada.  The 18 year old plans to invest some of his money in a new hot tub for his townhouse. 

Bertrand Grospellier - Grospellier has amassed $2,133,075 over this year thus far.  He's a multi-national player who was born in France and currently resides in South Korea.

Brandon Cantu - From Las Vegas, Cantu has made it to five final tables this year.  $1,069,694 is his total winnings thus far for the year.   Upon winning a World Series of Poker bracelet in 2006, Cantu relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada. On March 14, 2007, Cantu became one of only 27 players to ever win both a World Series of Poker bracelet (2006) and a World Poker Tour championship (2008).
