Philadelphia Eagles Betting Odds - 2007

The Philadelphia Eagles betting odds for 2007 have been posted and one can certainly find terrific value for sure.

Philadelphia paid $8 for every $5 bet to win the NFC East.  They would pay $6 for every $1 bet to win the NFC and $20 for every $1 bet to win the 2008 Super Bowl.

Philadelphia Eagles betting odds for regular season wins in 2007 had the line at 9 1/2 games, even on both the OVER and UNDER.  All online betting was available at Sportsbook.com

Our Carrie Stroup and Tony George both offered terrific analyses of the Philadelphia Eagles for 2007/2008.

Carrie Stroup:

Key additions: Kelly Holcomb QB, Takeo Spikes LB, Kevin Curtis WR, Monte Raeger DT

Key Losses: Donte Stallworth WR, Michael Lewis S, Jeff Garcia QB, Darwin Walker DT, Shawn Barber LB, Roderick Hood CB

The Birds shocked the world by using their first selection in the draft on QB Kevin Kolb. Don’t expect him to see the field that much as Donovan McNabb is reportedly ahead of schedule and should be ready to go to start the season. RB Brian Westbrook is coming off his best season yet with 1217 rushing yards, 699 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. Rookie RB Tony Hunt could provide immediate help as the team craves a between the tackle battering ram. Coach Reid is confident that Kevin Curtis will have no problem filling the shoes of the departed Donte Stallworth. Also expected to explode this season is third year receiver Reggie Brown who had 816 receiving yards and 8 TD’s. On the defensive side of the ball the Birds look set on paper but in reality there are quite a few question marks. They added a big name LB in Takeo Spikes but the fact remains that Spikes has been extremely injury prone in recent years. ILB Jeremiah Trotter will have to gut it out as he is playing on a couple knees that don’t have much left in them. Additionally, last years top pick Broderick Bunkley needs to step up and have a bigger role than his disappointing rookie season. Also a concern is whether or not they can get a full season out of DE Jevon Kearse. If the defense can avoid injuries and certain players step up, the Eagles could have an extremely exciting and “big play” type D.

Tony George (picks available here all season):

GettinGetting back a healthy Donovan McNabb is key, as the Eagles won a 5th division title in 6 years with now departed Jeff Garcia at QB at seasons end. Andy Reid is one of the better coaches in the NFL, and had some problems in the off-season with children related matters with drug charges, in his family, but that has been put to rest after 5 weeks off to deal with it. I expect a big push from this team, who should win their division again in 2007.

On offense I expect the nay sayers who have hammered McNabb to motivate him as he turns 31 this year and needs a conference championship and a Super Bow run again. It is a reality again in 2007, this is a veteran group that returns 19 starters from last years team. With Westbrook being one of the best running backs in the NFL and Buckhalter back healthy and off a good season in 2006, they are solid at RB. The dumped WR Donte Stallworth in free agency but got Kevin Curtis from the Rams, and with Reggie Brown, the offense will click, plus they are deep at tight end, and the line is in tact, as both tackles made the Pro Bowl last year and are veteran studs.

The defense has a decent group of LB's led by Takeo Spikes from Buffalo who was acquired in free agency to shore up this unit who had trouble stopping the run last year, and it will help. Pass rushers Javon Kearse and Cole have to have a better year and Kearse needs to pay dividends this year and remain healthy. The secondary is aging but allowed only 17 TD passes against them in 2006, and led by Dawkins and Sheppard will be outstanding again. Special teams is above average bu David Akers is off a bad year but will rebound and they picked up Patriot return guy Bethel Johnson to shore up the return game as well.

I like the Eagles chances on offense with a healthy McNabb this year and with a pass defense is that better than the Rams or Saints, is gives them a real chance down the road to make something happen. This team should get through mid-October without a loss, but the Giants on the road in late September will be a big test, who have playoff revenge from last year.
