Pete Doherty Arrested Again, Then Released on TechnicalityPete Doherty, the lover of fashion vixen Kate Moss, has been released from custody on a technicality. At one point heading into the new year, Irish bookmaker, Paddy Power, had been offering odds on the first celebrity to be arrested in 2007 with Pete Doherty the obvious even odds favorite. It only took 13 days for Doherty to be arrested within 2007. He and a friend were arrested January 13 for "suspicion of stealing a car". That was perhaps one of the easiest bets ever.
But Doherty went nearly six months without getting arrested. The next event took place on May 5 where Doherty was alleged to have been in possession of crack.
Now here we are in August and we have only Doherty's third arrest of 2007. On August 20, the singer was arrested during the wee hours of the morning for suspicions of drug possession.
But Doherty walked free from court on Tuesday after prosecutors abandoned their case against him for breaching bail terms which ban him from living in London.
Prosecutors admitted they had exceeded a 24-hour limit for bringing their case after Doherty was arrested in the early hours of Monday morning in east London on suspicion of possessing drugs.
Doherty, 28, is required to undergo detox treatment and live and sleep at an address in Somerset under the terms of his bail conditions before being sentenced next month for a string of other drugs offences.
"The case has been dropped on a legal technicality: no conviction has been recorded," prosecutor Anjulika Vatish told reporters outside West London Magistrates' Court.
"Mr Doherty was arrested on 20 August at 2:35 a.m. and so the court has no jurisdiction to deal with this matter any more," Vatish had earlier told the court.
Doherty did not appear in court.
He makes Lindsay Lohan look like Florence Nightingale.
