Patriots Super Bowl Betting Line Moves Back Down to -11 1/2

The New England Patriots Super Bowl betting line, after being brought up to -12 by Bodog, has come back down to -11 1/2.  Bodog is one of the only online gambling websites offering this juicy line.

It wasn't until the early morning hours that Bodog decided to move off of Patriots -11 1/2, a dangerous line should the Patriots manage to win by 12 or more points.  While the probability of a game landing on the number "12" is quite low, it's not impossible by any stretch of the imagination.  A combination of the Giants having 9 field goal points and the Patriots having 3 touchdowns would lead to a 12 point win.  The reason this is so crucial is that a number of online sportsbooks have not moved off the number "12" all week and a score landing on this number would result in a "push" (neither the book nor the player wins/loses).

By afternoon Bodog had moved the line back down to -11 1/2.

"They are just getting too much betting action on the Giants," says Payton O'Brien, Senior Editor of Gambling911.com.  "Most of the online sportsbooks are willing to take a chance on the Giants not covering with 75 percent or better of the public betting on New York, but Bodog is more recreational and I suspect the amount of action for the Giants with them is more like 80 percent or better."

While gamblers overwhelmingly believe that the Giants will at least cover the spread in this year's Super Bowl, just about everyone else believes the Patriots will win.

Jim Kiick, who was a running back for the undefeated Dolphins, said that as a New Jersey resident his heart is with the Giants. His head, Kiick added, said New England prevails.

``To go against their perfection would be crazy,'' the Lincoln Park, New Jersey, native said in an interview with Bloomberg News.

Kiick's 1972 teammate, kicker Garo Yepremian, also is a New York fan, having played with Archie Manning, the father of Giants quarterback Eli Manning, during the 1979 season in New Orleans.

``I like the Giants but right now the Patriots have the edge,'' Yepremian said in an interview in Glendale, Arizona.

Thirteen other teams have been favored by 10 or more points since the first Super Bowl in 1967, according to Las Vegas Sports Consultants, which advises Nevada sports books on betting lines. Those favorites went 9-4.
