New England won't have another perfect regular season this year, Baltimore was their biggest test of the season and falling behind 17-0 early on proved to be too much to overcome. The Pats made it 17-13 at halftime but the Ravens outscored them 20-7 in the second half.

While this loss is not the end of the Patriots, you can see that they clearly benefited from an easy early schedule. The road to Super Bowl LIV still goes through New England, this is a very good team and how they recover from this setback will tell us a lot about them.

The Patriots were exposed against the Ravens, who were the first opponent that did anything against their defense this season and they discovered that Lamar Jackson can be a real problem in the playoffs. Head coach Bill Belichick now has more information on their opponents and he won't take Jackson and the Ravens lightly if they cross their paths in the playoffs.

Mohamed Sanu's play was encouraging. New England traded for him on October 22, giving Atlanta a second-round pick and while he caught just two passes for 23 yards in his debut with the team in a 27-13 home win against Cleveland on October 27, he played much better against Baltimore with 10 catches for 81 yards and one touchdown while finding ways to get open quickly and beat defenders on long routes in the middle.

Yes, the Patriots are still the team to beat in the AFC but if Sunday's turnovers, penalties and missed opportunities continue in their games against the Eagles, Cowboys, Texans and Chiefs, then they could drop some of these contests and compromise their chances of securing home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
