David Beckham lawsuit, Cristiano Ronaldo rape allegations, David Lee Roth taking over for Howard Stern

October 23, 2005 Edition

The world loves to read the latest on soccer super star David Beckham, and not necessarily in relation to his athletic ability.  This is a fact that Gambling911.com knows oh so well.

What's new with Beckham?

Beckham and his wife Victoria "Posh Spice" are suing one of our favorite British newspapers, the News Of The World, later this year for publishing false allegations made by their former child-minder about David and Victoria’s relationship. The UK's High Court presided by Judge Justice Charles Grey decided that the couple is entitled to hear the tapes made by Gibson that the newspaper plans to use in its defense. David and Victoria’s marriage has been the center of media scandal since rumors spread about David's affairs. Last year another newspaper published an article in which David's former personal assistant Rebecca Loos revealed she was having an affair with the Real Madrid star, but the Beckhams denied it.

In other Beckham News....Becks wants a salary increase.  Realising his worth at Real Madrid, England soccer captain David Beckham is demanding the Spanish club's bosses a pay deal of 770,000 pounds a week.

"Becks has tabled the sensational demand, which adds up to 40 million pounds a year, because he realises he is Madrid's most valuable asset," The Mirror tabloid reported today.

Beckham, 30, wants a basic weekly salary of 190,000 pounds plus all the profits from his shirt sales that have made the elite club the richest in the world.

But he may be prepared to settle for 540,000 pounds a week after negotiations over his image rights, the report said.

This will still make him the world's third highest paid sportsman after World no.1 golf star Tiger Woods and Ferrari's seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher.

...And while we are on the topic of News of the World, the British tabloid reported on a "mystery" soccer rapist last week.  This week they name the alleged rapist.

THE News of the World delivers the astonishing inside story on the sex scandal that has engulfed soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo.

For the first time News of the World can reveal how the Manchester United ace dramatically confessed to police that he enjoyed a "roasting" sex romp with the two girls who accused him of rape. But Ronaldo, 20, swore it was all done with their consent. He told detectives his cousin was also there in his London hotel room and had sex with one of the girls.

He then described how they all went clubbing together afterwards.

As the career of the young Premiership ace hangs in the balance, our in-depth investigation has uncovered further dramatic new facts how the girls: GIGGLED and laughed as they partied with the men AFTER the alleged rape, TRAILED the players back to their hotel after clubbing with them but were turned away, and then WAITED over a day before attending hospital and complaining to police.

The drama began on Saturday, October 1, after the Portuguese star dined out with his cousin and two pals to celebrate the Red Devils' 3-2 win over Fulham.

They arrived back at the star's trendy Sanderson Hotel in the West End around midnight for drinks in the Long Bar.

It was there Ronaldo and his cousin first encountered the French Afro-Caribbean women. One eyewitness described how the well-dressed girls, both unemployed, had already been there drinking for an hour.

One was in a micro-skirt and strappy high heels. The other had a low-cut top and black boots up to her knees.

German businessman Dirk Wetzel said that after chatting to several other men in the bar the girls were flirting and laughing with Ronaldo. "The situation seemed clear the girls wanted to sleep with him, not him with them," said Mr Wetzel, 34.

Another witness told us that £60,000-a-week Ronaldo, famed for flashy play on the pitch but regarded as "The Quiet One" off it was "impeccably behaved".

"He was stone cold sober and unbelievably polite to everyone who approached him," said the guest.

Shortly after 1am Ronaldo and his cousin went up to their £2,500-a-night suite. Minutes later the two girls followed them up.

Another guest told us: "It was strange how the girls did it. They walked straight from the bar then suddenly did a U-turn for the lifts, like they didn't want to be seen."

What exactly happened over the next two hours on the king-sized sleigh bed, painted in silver leaf, is at the heart of the police inquiry. Ronaldo told police he had consensual sex with both women, one after the other, and his cousin went with just one.

At around 3am both men left the Sanderson in a chauffeur-driven car and were taken to the Movida club. The two girls followed in a separate car. Detectives are now investigating why.

But a witness at the club told us the girls and men, including Ronaldo, were all together in the VIP section drinking, laughing and chatting. At no point did he see any aggression or rows. "The girls were all smiles and seemed really happy," said our source. "I remember them all leaving together. The girls were laughing and giggling."

It was 3.59am when the soccer idol and his cousin came out. They returned to the Sanderson by chauffeured car arriving at 4.07am. Two minutes later the girls turned up too, again in a separate vehicle.

By then the men had gone to their room. It is alleged the girls tried to follow but were stopped. They finally left the hotel at 4.58am.

We can reveal that they did not report the alleged rape until about 30 hours later on Monday morning. Instead of going to police they went to hospital and told medics, who immediately called in police.

They spent several hours being quizzed and examined at a rape counselling suite.

....Bodog.com offered this past week to cover any fines Allen Iverson receives for violating the NBA’s dress code this season. The online gaming and entertainment giant also plans to extend similar offers to all NBA players.

Even if Iverson pays his own fines, Bodog.com Founder and CEO Calvin Ayre will match any of the fines levied to the Philadelphia 76ers’ superstar in the form of donations to Iverson’s Crossover Foundation, which supports underprivileged youth in the inner city.

"I can understand the frustration felt by the many basketball players who feel that they have been forced to conform with the league’s new dress code," says Ayre. "Iverson and other NBA players have suggested that they will not abide by the league’s dress code, and Bodog.com will offer to reimburse any fines levied, and match the payment with a donation to each player’s charity of choice."

Ayre was referring to Monday’s announcement by the league that a dress code will go into effect at the start of the regular season on November 1. The basketball pros will be expected to wear business-casual attire whenever they participate in team or league activities, including arriving at games, leaving games, conducting interviews and making promotional appearances. Teams and players will be subject to fines for violating the dress code. The amount of the fines has not yet been announced.

The rumors were true according to Fox News and we here at Gambling911.com are wondering which sportsbook will be the first to post odds on this development.

Infinity Broadcasting will reportedly be announcing that David Lee Roth is taking over for Howard Stern.

The one-time lead singer of Van Halen will assume the microphone in New York and several other markets where Stern's radio show is heard.

Still not set is where Adam Carolla, former co-host of "The Man Show," will be in the lineup, but sources close to the action tell me that Roth and Carolla will not be together.

Roth is represented by the all-knowing, all-seeing Creative Artists Agency in Hollywood, so you know he has an ironclad contract.

The president of programming for Infinity Broadcasting, which owns Stern's show, said last winter that there wouldn't be one person replacing the notorious shock jock.

A most interesting prop bet we say.
