Newt Gingrich: Will he Announce Presidential Run Today?

Newt Gingrich will be appearing on Fox News with Greta Van Susteran and there is speculation that he may announce his plans to run for the 2008 US Presidential race.

This is Carrie Stroup reporting for Gambling911.com with all your latest political betting odds coverage from our bureau in Miami Beach, Florida.

"I think right now, it is a great possibility," Gingrich told "Good Morning America" host Diane Sawyer in regard to his likelihood of jumping into the race.

Gingrich has been controversial over the years by repeatedly having to apologize for racist and hypocritical remarks.

"Gingrich is smart and full of big conservative ideas. He has the visionary thing going but there's baggage."

In one of Gingrich's latest racist rants said Mexicans should "learn the common language of the country and they learn the language of prosperity, not the language living of in a ghetto."

Gingrich also stood on the podium of "family values", fought to have former President Bill Clinton impeached; the whole time while having an extramarital affair with Congressional aide Callista Bisek.

A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll in early March 2007 showed Gingrich was the choice of 9 percent of likely Republican voters nationwide, which put him in a tie for third place with former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney but well behind the front-runners, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Sen. John McCain of Arizona.

Oddsmakers at Sportsbook.com have Newt Gingrich a huge 40 to 1 underdog to become the next US President in 2008, compared to Rudy Giuliani at 2 to 1 odds.

David Brody of CBN News believes that Gingrich would make a viable candidate and probably someone not worthy of those steep 40 to 1 odds, though Brody's organization would never think to bet on Newt.

"Gingrich is smart and full of big conservative ideas. He has the visionary thing going but there's baggage. Newt won't have to worry so much about the Democrats bringing up his personal relationships. That's because if he gets in, rival Republican campaigns will do it themselves. Newt came clean with James Dobson a few months so that will help but it's still something he's going to have to deal with.

"Now on substance, people that I've talked to who know Gingrich say he''s the smartest guy in the room. That has never been the issue. The issue is to keep him focused. Those who know him say he tends to wander and move on to other topics and not stay entirely focused.

"Clearly, Gingrich sees an opening and knows that he can fill a void. But is he too polarizing to win the General Election?"
