National Spelling Bee Odds Have Boys Big Favorite but Samir Patel EliminatedAt 1-5 odds, the boys suddenly became big favorites in tonight's ABC televised National Spelling Bee even though the girls are usually slightly favored. (You can find National Spelling Bee odds Here)
This is Carrie Stroup with your latest National Spelling Bee odds from Sportsbook.com, which still only listed the sexes and not individual qualifiers at press time 3 pm ET.
Girls would pay out $3 for every $1 bet at press time. But these odds are likely to change if not locked in immediately.
In a shocking upset, Scripps National Spelling Bee favorite Samir Patel was eliminated in the fifth round of this morning's competition, keeping the Bee's biggest star out of the prime time championship rounds.
Patel was given the word "clevis," which he spelled "clevice."
Patel was the favorite coming into the competition. He wept upon losing. But the young genius - who we are sure will become a doctor or physicist when he grows up - is planning on entering other contests, including those that involve math, during his teenage years.
Young Patel, a sports fanatic, is being looked at as the "Dan Marino" of Spelling Bees. In other words, after a fifth try, he'll go down as one of the greatest spellers who never won the competition. This was the last one he could enter due to age requirements.
As for the Spelling Bee itself and the five finalists, forget the Democratic Convention - this is what everyone will be watching and you can still get your bets in before it starts.
