Thank goodness for the National Football League. Now, sports fans have something to revel about with the 2020 NFL Draft set to take place on April 23-25 as scheduled, despite nearly every other league and game cancelled or postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak. With little for sportsbooks to handicap and post, the draft comes at a great time. And with so much time on their hands, there are plenty of prop bets available at BookMaker.eu.

No position is scrutinized more than quarterback, for obvious reasons. Being the face of the franchise that drafts him there is added pressure to deliver. And no spot in the draft is under a microscope more than the first overall pick. That doesn’t mean players selected later get a pass. They won’t on the field and they certainly don’t on the prop board. Joe Burrow is the consensus No. 1 pick, but who will be the second quarterback taken in the draft?

Who Will Be the Second Quarterback Drafted?

Tua Tagovailoa -500

Justin Herbert +350

Jordan Love +1200

Joe Burrow +2200

Any Other Player +2000

I’m sure there’s a scenario that exists where Burrow isn’t the No. 1 overall pick. We are talking about the Bengals after all. Cincy hasn’t drafted a QB in the first round since taking Carson Palmer with the No. 1 overall pick in 2003. That actually turned out to be a good choice as Palmer helped the team end a 15-year playoff drought throwing a NFL-high 32 touchdown passes in 2005.

Four quarterbacks are projected as first round picks with Burrow’s record-setting 2019 campaign catapulting him to the top of the class. Tagovailoa entered the season as the likely No. 1 overall pick, however a serious hip injury and Burrow’s 5,671-yard, 60-touchdown season turned the tables. Burrow also tore apart a number of good defenses over the course of the season, including Clemson’s for the National Championship.

Had Tua not been injured the race for the first QB selected would be much closer. As it stands Burrow is the heavy favorite to be the first from the position off the board and in all likelihood the No. 1 overall pick. Tagovailoa has little chance of moving ahead of Burrow and Tua has distanced himself from Justin Herbert and Jordan Love.

There were some concerns over Tua’s hip after he had surgery to repair the damage sustained in a late-season game against Mississippi State. He was having another fantastic season to that point completing 71.4 percent of his passes for 2,840 yards and 33 touchdowns. He played sparingly his freshman season until taking over for Jalen Hurts in National Championship game against Georgia leading a comeback victory. The rest, as they say, is history.

There is a divide among the top four QBs in the draft. Burrow is the consensus No. 1 with Tagovailoa, Herbert and Love next in line. And Tua is ranked slightly ahead in the battle of the next tier of players. If there is a scenario where Burrow isn’t No. 1, there’s also a scenario where Tua isn’t No. 2. But again, it’s buried somewhere and nobody really knows what the exact circumstances are.

We can take a shot at figuring out if those two instances don’t come to fruition. Actually, we’ll just look at the second since Burrow will be the first QB selected even if he’s not the No. 1 overall pick. There will be some wheeling and dealing ahead of the draft. Teams that have expressed an interest in drafting a QB that sit behind the Bengals are Miami at No. 5 and the Chargers at No. 6.

It would be excruciating to wait since Washington and Detroit could use their picks on a quarterback. Both clubs have recently said as much creating some uneasy times. It could be posturing to work a deal and the Bolts might bite to move up. There are rumors the Chargers are interested in Herbert and his more developed pro-style game.

That’s a lot to think about and as we know teams play mind games ahead of the draft. The bottom line is that Tua is the best option behind Burrow and he appears to be locked in as the second quarterback selected in the 2020 NFL Draft.
