This was one of the most intense rivalries in the NFL a few years ago when the San Francisco 49ers were good. It lost some of its luster after Jim Harbaugh departed and the Niners went into a funk. Things have turned around in the Bay Area this season and the Niners look to remain perfect on the year when they host NFL West rival Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football. Russell Wilson is putting up MVP-type numbers and takes on the NFL’s top-ranked defense in Week 10. San Francisco opened as a 6.5-point favorite on the NFL betting line.

Odds Analysis

There hasn’t been a lot of movement on the line meaning the oddsmakers got it right or, more likely, a number of bettors are waiting to throw down on this matchup. The Niners opened as a 6.5-point home favorite and we saw the line dip to -6 before being wagered back up a half-point. Twice Seattle has played as an underdog this season and both times they won outright, taking down Pittsburgh and Cleveland on the road. The Niners were a 10.5-point favorite last week in Arizona and had a 28-14 lead going into the fourth quarter. The Cards scored a touchdown with less than five minutes left to get the backdoor cover, dropping SF to 5-3 ATS. The total spiked to 47 after hitting the board at 44.

Seattle Seahawks

Stepping out of the shadows of the Legion of Boom defense, Russell Wilson is the leader of an offense that averages 395 yards and 27.6 points per game. Wilson threw a career-best five touchdown passes last week, including one in overtime to lift the Seahawks to a 40-34 win over Tampa Bay to cover the 4-point closing line. He completed 29 of 43 for 378 yards against one of the NFL poorer defenses. It will be interesting to see how he does against the Niners’ top ranked pass defense that allows just 138.1 yards per game.

With 13 catches last week, Tyler Lockett is easily Wilson’s favorite target. He leads the team with 59 receptions, 767 yards and six touchdowns. It’ll be tougher for teams to lockdown on Lockett with Josh Gordon expected to play. Gordon had 20 receptions, 287 yards and a touchdown in six games with the Patriots. Pete Carroll said earlier in the week that his team is in such good shape injury-wise that some healthy players will be inactive on Monday night.

Seattle is one of four teams that have yet to lose a road game this season going 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS. Over their last five games when getting points on the road the Seahawks are 4-1 SU and 5-0 ATS with the over cashing in the last four of those games. Their loss in Santa Clara last December ended a streak of 10 straight wins for the Seahawks.

San Francisco 49ers

As usually happens with good teams, when one phase of the game falters the others play well enough to overcome it. Such was the case last week for the Niners, whose top ranked defense had a tough time stopping Kyler Murray and Kenyan Drake. In his first game with the Cards, Drake went for 110 yards and averaged 7.3 yards per carry. Murray hit 17 of 24 for 241 yards and two touchdowns, but the offense did enough to get the victory.

After the Cards got within 28-25 with less than five minutes to play in the fourth, the Niners converted three third-downs and ran out the clock. Jimmy Garoppolo had one of his best days in a Niners uniform throwing for 317 yards and four touchdowns on 28 of 37 passing. SF converted 11 of 17 third-downs and amassed 411 total yards. Garoppolo has been deadly all season with 36 of his 47 third-down completions going for either a first down or touchdown. The Niners rank fourth in the NFL converting 48.6 percent of their third downs.

The Niners will be tested and they better defend the run better than in Arizona. The Seahawks have been one of the best on the ground over the last several years and they average 131.7 yards this season, good for seventh in the NFL. The loss of Kwon Alexander could impact the run defense on Monday night.

Seattle’s balanced attack will cause problems for the Niners and we could see a shootout on Monday. No George Kittle, who is doubtful after getting hurt in Arizona, will impact the Niners offense, but not enough to keep them off the board. Wilson keeps his team in games and he’ll do that on Monday. I like this game hitting the over even with the number going up, and I like Seattle to pull off the upset with Wilson doing his magic.

NFL Score Prediction: Seattle 31, San Francisco 27

J.J. McCarthy Drafted Number 3 Odds to Patriots

To be clear, the Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy is pretty certain to land in Minnesota.  But what if the New England Patriots shock us and pick McCarthy at Number 3 before the Vikings get their opportunity at No. 5?

Bet on Jared Verse Draft Position

Jared Verse had an over/under selection number of 15.5 with CBS Sports believing the Florida State EDGE will be chosen by the Seattle Seahawks at No. 16.
