At the time it didn’t look like the Seattle Seahawks’ Week 3 home loss to New Orleans would have an impact on the NFC standings. But after five consecutive victories Seattle matched the Saints 10-2 record and currently owns the No. 2 seed in the conference because of that setback. With four games left in the season and both teams still having to play the 10-2 49ers, there will be some changes at the top. Don’t count the Los Angeles Rams out of the playoff picture just yet. They throttled Arizona last week and have a score to settle with Seattle on Sunday night after a 30-29 Week 5 setback when Greg Zuerlein missed a field goal in the final seconds.

Odds Analysis

It looks as though the Rams are getting some sharp action for this crucial NFC West tilt. It’s hard not to like Russell Wilson and the Seahawks after winning five in a row to go 10-2 SU. They surfaced as a 2.5-point road favorite and got a majority of the early play. However, the line dropped to a pick ‘em by Thursday. The Rams put things together last week getting a fine all around effort to beat Arizona and they probably should’ve won the earlier meeting with Seattle except for that missed field goal. LA covered as a 1.5-point dog. We’ve had high-scoring affairs between the clubs with the OVER cashing in the last four meetings with an average combined score of nearly 60 points. The total opened at 46.5 and spiked a half point to its current 47.

Seattle Seahawks

You could say the Seahawks are playing with fire. Nine of their 10 wins are by a single possession, which includes four by a field goal or less. Their 30-29 win over the Rams in Week 5 fit into that category. Seattle has won five straight overall by a total of 31 points with two of those coming in overtime. They are 4-1 ATS in that span having covered in the last four. Things have a way of evening out over the course of a season, but Seattle opponents are running out of time.

Now that the Legion of Boom is done and has been for a few years, the Seahawks are Wilson’s team. And he’s delivered on every front. A leading candidate for the league’s MVP award, Wilson hasn’t been at his best the last few games but the Seahawks continue to win, which is why he’s a leading candidate for the MVP. He leads the NFL with 26 touchdown passes, is third with a 111.1 passer rating and his 3,177 yards rank seventh. Finding a balance with the run game is what makes Wilson and the Seahawks so dangerous.

Chris Carson had 102 rushing yards last week and Rashaad Penny continued his late-season surge with 74 as the Seahawks amassed 218 yards on the ground in their win over Minnesota. They’ll look for more of the same against a Rams defense that was scalded for 285 rushing yards by the Ravens two weeks ago.

Los Angeles Rams

Realizing that they are about to be knocked off their NFC throne, the Rams are making one last stand. They had lost five of their previous eight games to fall out of the playoff picture until restoring some sense of normalcy with their 34-7 pasting of the Cardinals. Has the league figured out Sean McVay’s offense or was the play of Jared Goff to blame? They kind of go hand-in-hand, but Goff certainly hasn’t looked like the player he was a year ago.

That all changed when Goff completed 32 of 43 for 424 yards with a pair of touchdowns and no interceptions against the Cards. Over the previous three games Goff averaged 209.3 passing yards and failed to throw a touchdown while getting picked off five times. The Rams lost twice in that span and averaged fewer than 12 points per game. Getting Brandin Cooks and Robert Woods back on the field must have been inspirational.

Playing a solid defensive game was a change for the Rams as well. Putting that ugly Sunday night defeat to Baltimore behind them the Rams held Arizona to fewer than 200 total yards, sacked Murray six times and had a shutout into the fourth quarter. It was the last-place Cards the Rams bullied, but it was a nice response to keep their slim playoff hopes alive.

With a run game that’s working, Wilson wielding his magic and a 29-5-1 record in primetime under Pete Carroll can you pass on the Seahawks? The Rams were slaughtered at home by Lamar Jackson and he Ravens two weeks ago and surrendered 55 points to Tampa at the Coliseum earlier in the year. The game is a tossup for a reason but the OVER is screaming ‘take me.’

NFL Score Prediction: Seattle 31, Los Angeles 28
