NFL Betting – Los Angeles Rams at Seattle Seahawks

Division games have more meaning when teams that are expected to compete for the title get together. The NFC West has another challenger to go along with the Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks, who hookup for the first time in 2019 on Thursday Night Football. The Rams are coming off their first loss of the season falling to the Bucs last week while Seattle secured a division win over Arizona. LA has won the last three in the series scoring at least 33 points and cashing the over each time. The current NFL betting line has the Seahawks as a 1.5-point favorite.

Odds Analysis

The early line had the Rams favored by 2-points, but that number did an okey doke after LA was beaten at home, 55-40, by Tampa Bay. The line jumped the fence with Seattle getting a lot of play after Sunday’s results. The home team is currently a 1-point favorite at offshore sportsbooks. If the line stands it will mark the first time the Rams will play as an underdog since the final game of the 2017 season. The only reason they got points in that matchup was because Sean McVay sat most of his starters. Under McVay the Rams are 2-2 SU and ATS as a dog with both wins coming on the road.

Los Angeles Rams

It’s hard to say the Rams offense is struggling after the group amassed 518 yards and 40 points against Tampa last week. But it is. A lot of those yards were compiled against a prevent defense after the Rams fell behind by three touchdowns early on. Jared Goff had to do something after his blunders put the Rams in a big hole. Two picks led to a pair of Bucs’ touchdowns and the Rams were down 21-0 midway through the second quarter.

Goff finished the day 45 of 68 for 517 yards and a pair of scores. However, his three picks turned into three Tampa touchdowns and a fumble late in the fourth quarter on a strip sack was returned for a touchdown. There was no balance to the offense with just 11 total rush attempts, and Todd Gurley’s limited touches make us wonder if the injury problems he endured last season are still lingering. Gurley carried the ball just five times for 16 yards and had seven catches for an additional 54 yards.

We have to be concerned about the Rams defense, too. Jameis Winston threw for 385 yards and four touchdowns. While the offense didn’t help with the turnovers, the Rams still allowed six offensive touchdowns. The Rams have won the last three games in the series averaging 37 points per outing, and they are 9-1 SU and 7-3 ATS in their previous 10 NFC West matchups. LA’s last Thursday night game was a win over Minnesota where Goff finished with a perfect passer rating.

Seattle Seahawks

Enduring a rare home loss when they practically gift wrapped the Saints a victory, Seattle recovered to beat Arizona last week to improve to 3-1 on the year. The Seahawks also covered the 5.5-point closing line and are now 2-2 ATS. It’s hard to get too excited beating the rebuilding Cardinals. The run game, which was such a big part of the offense in 2018, ranks in the middle of the pack with an average of 111.5 yards per game. Chris Carson scampered for 104 yards last week, but Seattle had just 115 yards total.

With the yards tough to come by on the ground, Russell Wilson has been efficient throwing the football. He was 22 of 28 for 240 yards against the Cards and leads the NFL completing 72.9 percent of his passes. Wilson has eight touchdowns and has yet to throw in interception. A big game is on the horizon against a Rams D that could be missing some secondary pieces due to injury.

Pete Carroll has been impressed with the play of his quarterback early in the season, and that’s saying something since the two have been together for a number of years. “I don’t think he’s ever been more accurate than he’s been and more consistent and in command of everything, so I think he’s off to a great start. His play has just been really, really sharp.”

Seattle has gotten better quarterback play than the Rams this season with Wilson commanding the offense. And the addition of Jadeveon Clowney makes the D stronger. But can you take the Hawks seriously with their wins over teams that have a combined 1-10-1 record? The Rams need to get Gurley involved to balance the offense, and I like for them to bounce back with a big road win and plenty of points.

NFL Score Prediction: Los Angeles 27, Seattle 23
