With a pair of scuffling, injury-riddled teams scheduled to play on Sunday night, the networks were probably looking to flex to another matchup. However, there is plenty of intrigue in the NFC East battle between the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles. First place in the division is up for grabs, which should make this a hotly-contested game, and let’s face it the teams don’t really like each other. Dallas’ injuries are more significant since they’ve come at the most important position on the football field making them a big underdog. With Dak Prescott done for the year and Andy Dalton getting blown up last week, we could see Ben DiNucci get his first start. The problems run much deeper for the Boys, who’ve dropped two in a row by a combined score of 63-13 and are 0-7 ATS.  Bookmaker.eu is offering a generous welcome bonus (max bonus $1600)

Odds Analysis

A shredded offensive line, two horrible losses and potentially starting a rookie seventh-round draft pick has the Cowboys as a big 9-point underdog on the current line. If the spread holds it’ll be the largest in the series since 2012. Dallas was a 9.5-point dog in a game at Seattle in the 2014 season, which they won outright. The thing about the NFC East is that a win puts you right in the thick of the race. Consider how bad the Giants have been and they are just one win behind the leaders, so yeah, the group isn’t very good. As we reach the halfway point it’s clear the only path to the playoffs is a division title, putting more emphasis on games between members, and this one certainly qualifies. The Cowboys have been the worst bet in the league losing their last two games when closing as a 1-point favorite. They have failed to get a payout this season.

Dallas Cowboys

The quarterback situation is an obvious concern, but the problems run much deeper. The offensive line lost starting tackles Tyron Smith and La’el Collins, and Joe Looney and Zack Martin have missed time. The entire offense took a major drop when Prescott went down. The Cowboys led the NFL in yards scoring nearly 33 points per game through the first five outings. Over the last two games with Dalton starting the Boys totaled 13 points and had just 142 total yards in last week’s 25-3 loss to Washington.

Even if Dalton is cleared to play DiNucci should at least get a look. Over his two starts Dalton completed fewer than 59 percent of his passes with three interceptions. He was also sacked six times in those games. DiNucci was 2 of 3 for 39 yards last week when taking over for Dalton and he was sacked three times as well. “I’ve got a chance to go out there on Sunday Night Football and do what I love to do. I couldn’t be happier or more excited,” DiNucci said.

The Cowboys will have to play better defensively to have any shot at winning. They rank last against the run and surrender the most points in the league. The Giants, who rank next to last in scoring, had their highest scoring game of the season against the Boys a few weeks ago.

Philadelphia Eagles

There is no concern as to who the starting quarterback is just an issue about the way Carson Wentz has played this season. He’s thrown at least one interception in six of seven games and is tied with Kirk Cousins for the most picks thrown. The Eagles also had the benefit of a few extra days of rest after knocking off the Giants on Thursday night to move into first place. That tie with the Bengals back in Week 3 doesn’t look so bad now.

Doug Pederson is hoping the return of key pieces on offense can settle Wentz down. Tight end Dallas Goedert and receiver Jalen Reagor were activated off IR and hope to return on Sunday. Travis Fulgham has been a bright spot taking advantage of playing time due to injuries. Since joining the active roster in Week 4, Fulgham has 23 receptions for 357 yards and three touchdowns.

The Eagles will likely see a heavy dose of Ezekiel Elliott as the Cowboys look to take advantage of a defense that allows over 130 yards per game on the ground. Stopping the run and forcing DiNucci to throw the football puts Philly in a good spot. The Eagles have 24 sacks, the third-highest total in the NFL while the Cowboys have allowed nine of the 20 sacks in the last two games.

This is a tough game to handicap considering how bad both teams have been. Siding with the Eagles looks like the smart play since Wentz is coming off his best game of the season and Dallas’ dysfunction is at Jets level right now. But the spread is huge and the Cowboys can’t possibly be as bad as what they’ve shown the previous two weeks. Plus they’ve got first place in the division staring at them. It’s hard to pass on the points so I won’t.

NFL Score Prediction: Eagles 28, Cowboys 24
