NFL Betting – 2019 Week 9 Wise Guy Picks

By the close of business on Monday night, every team will have played eight games, or half of their schedule. That’s right, the 2019 NFL season has reached the midway point. And there have been plenty of storylines. The trade deadline passed with a few deals. The Rams superstar secondary is no more after Aqib Talib was dealt to the Dolphins. And after the San Francisco 49ers hammered Carolina, I guess we can say they are for real. Both the Niners and Patriots remained unbeaten and we’ll see how much longer that lasts. With Marcus Mariota benched recently, we said last week that it was only a matter of time before others followed. The time is now for Andy Dalton, whose career in Cincinnati may be over.

Now, on to the important stuff. Our wise guy picks from last week proved profitable with two of the three matchups coming out a winner. The aforementioned Dalton didn’t have a bad game but he failed to deliver a win for the eighth time this year, falling to the Rams 24-10 in London. LA covered the 10.5-point line that was gobbled up early. Betting the over on the Eagles-Bills matchup also proved profitable. Philly literally ran all over Buffalo on its way to a 31-13 victory. Tampa Bay denied wise guys a perfect week by failing to cover in a 27-23 loss to the Titans, who are now 2-0 with Ryan Tannehill as their starter.

It wasn’t a bad week but we can do better, so let’s get back to winning some money by following the wise guy leads on the Week 9 schedule. And remember, BookMaker will have spreads and totals for every NFL matchup during the 2019 season. Visit BookMaker.eu when you’re ready to wager on your favorite NFL team.

NFL Week 9 Wise Guy Picks

San Francisco 49ers ( -10, 42.5 ) at Arizona Cardinals

Like a lot of people I had my doubts about the Niners at the beginning of the season. They beat two bad teams in Tampa Bay and Cincinnati, and knocked off Pittsburgh in its first game without Ben Roethlisberger, so I wasn’t all in. But they look like the real deal and it’s their defense doing the damage. A group that leads the NFL in total defense and is second in scoring defense will give Kyler Murray a hard time on Thursday night.

The early line had the Niners -6.5 and that was wagered up a lot after a short time. Sharps and squares are getting in on the Niners action with the spread currently at -10. San Fran has been a good bet this year going 5-2 ATS after dismantling the Panthers 51-13 as a 4.5-point favorite last week.

New York Jets ( -3, 40.5 ) at Miami Dolphins

The Jets may have surpassed the Dolphins as the most dysfunctional team in the NFL, and that showed among the betting public with a drastic line move. New York opened as a 5.5-point favorite against the lowly Fins, but a majority of those wagering don’t think Miami is that low. Another drastic line move is an indication that something is at play and wise guys are likely responsible.

We know pro sports is a business and players are assets or liabilities. They can be moved anytime and often have no say. So it shouldn’t be a surprise that the 1-6 Jets were looking to move players at the deadline. But apparently some of those players found out they were being shopped and are unhappy. Having disgruntled players on a team going nowhere is not good. Can the Fins rise to the occasion and stick it to their old coach? There are folks out there who believe that can happen. Or at least the Fins will lose by a field goal or less.

Chicago Bears at Philadelphia Eagles ( -5, 43 )

This is another game with significant movement on the line, which makes us think there are some shenanigans taking place. A rematch of the NFC Wild Card game from last season, both these clubs have work to do to get back in a playoff spot. The Eagles opened as a field goal favorite with overreaction on both sides forcing an uptick in the spread.

Chicago’s offense continues to sputter and the kicking woes cost them a crucial win last week. Meanwhile, the Eagles snapped out of their funk with a big win in Buffalo. The Bears have lost as many games already this season as they did all of last year with a current three-game slide putting them in last-place in the NFC North. They can’t afford another defeat in the crowded conference, but they haven’t shown they can win close games this year.
