Behind the play of Giannis Antetokounmpo the Bucks extended their lead in the Eastern Conference to four games over Toronto, and they have an edge over Golden State for the best record in the entire league. The Rockets have clinched a playoff berth and currently sit as the No. 3 seed in the West.

Odds Analysis

The Rockets have launched up the standings in the West and are putting pressure on the Nuggets for the No. 2 seed. They are 14-2 in their last 16 games and they’ve been consistent since getting some of their pieces back in place. The return of Clint Capela after the All-Star break was huge to help steady a defense that had been shaky in his absence. The best road team in the Association last season, the Rockets picked up their play away from home by going 7-1 in their last eight road games, with wins over East powers Boston and Toronto. The only losses over the last 16 games have been by a combined three points.

A brief lull that saw the Bucks lose two of three games ended with a pair of emphatic victories over Miami and Cleveland. At 55-19, the Bucks are four games clear of the Raptors in the East and 3.5 games up on Golden State for the best overall record. And the Bucks have taken care of business at home making Fiserv Forum their house in the first year of the new venue. Milwaukee is tied with Denver for the best home record in the league at 30-6 with the only loss in the last eight coming to Philadelphia.

Rockets

James Harden is the guy in Houston, but the team’s success is contingent on a number of factors. Sure, Harden gets all the headlines for his scoring prowess. He does after all lead the NBA with 36.4 points per game. But we’ve seen the Rockets play like a championship contender since Capela returned to the floor. There’s a fine line for the Rockets in the last few weeks of the regular season. They want to stay healthy for a lengthy postseason run, but they don’t want to lose their place in the standings.

Harden kept the team afloat when Capela and Chris Paul missed time with injuries and we aren’t going to see him take a seat. In an overtime loss to Memphis last week, Harden scored 57 points and followed that with a 61-point effort to help beat San Antonio. Against the Pelicans on Sunday, Harden scored “only” 28 points, but he did get a breather in the blowout playing just 29 minutes. That’s the least amount of time The Beard has spent on the floor since early December.

Bucks

The Bucks have been fortunate on the injury front most of the season, but their depth will be tested over the next few games. They did get Antetokounmpo back after he missed a pair of games with a sore ankle. In his absence they beat the Lakers and suffered a humiliating loss in Cleveland, showing just how valuable Giannis is to the team and a likely reason why he wins the MVP award. Before taking a seat, Antetokounmpo had an epic performance in a loss to the Sixers, dropping 52 points with 16 rebounds.

Starting guard Malcom Brogdon is on the shelf as is Nikola Mirotic and Pau Gasol. Though the latter two haven’t impacted the rotation too much since joining the squad, they are valuable pieces that shorten the bench. Tony Snell, who has started in Brogdon’s place, sustained an injury on Sunday and his availability is questionable. Veteran George Hill, who recently returned from an injury, will have a bigger role. Hill scored 17 points on 7 of 8 shooting in Sunday’s win over the Cavs.

Both teams like to shoot threes and can score points so there is a strong possibility we get a high scoring affair. It’s strange to say this, but the Rockets might have a deeper bench with the Bucks dealing with several injuries. We’ll see the usual suspects play and contribute like they normally do, but Antetokounmpo is just a beast and I don’t see the Rockets doing enough defensively to contain him. Harden will get his points, but the Bucks have more scoring options, and that’s what eventually decides this game in favor of the home team.

NBA Score Prediction: Bucks 118, Rockets 113
