Miss USA Rachel Smith Odds Slashed: Brazil now the Favorite
With betting on the Miss Universe 2007 contest hitting unprecedented numbers, heavy action was also coming in from the US, thus prompting online gambling website BetUS.com to slash Miss USA Rachel Smith odds from +1150 to +1000.
"Rachel Smith is now in the top 10 of likely finalists according to oddsmakers," says Payton O'Brien, Senior Editor of Gambling911.com. "Whereas before she was hovering around the bottom 15."
But odds can be deceiving. With heavy action on the home grown favorite, BetUS.com's odds are simply a reflection of the action betting volume coming in.
"Miss Brazil is now listed with the same odds as Miss Venezuela," O'Brien points out. "This is going to be more exciting than a horse race as we come down the home stretch."
Miss Brazil at late odds of +400 would pay out $400 for every $100 bet.
Miss Korea, Miss Nicaragua and Miss Greece are all still listed with single digit odds. Miss Greece at +800 for example would be equivalent to 8 to 1 odds.
Miss Tanzania, Miss South Africa and Miss Spain were each listed equal or higher to Miss USA with +1150 odds prior to Monday evening before Rachel Smith's odds were slashed.
"Aside from Miss USA and a huge jump for Miss Brazil to become a favorite along with Miss Venezuela now, there has not been too much of a shift evident in the Miss Universe odds."
Executives at BetUS.com quietly are rooting against Miss Venezuela, Miss Brazil and Miss USA.
The show starts live at 9 pm ET
