Miss
Puerto Rico 2008
Miss Universe Odds
After Miss Venezuela
at +625 odds, Miss
Puerto Rico is the
second biggest
favorite to win the
2008 Miss Universe
Pageant this coming
Sunday. Miss
Puerto Rico 2008
Miss Universe odds
were listed at
+750 at SBG Global,
which just released
odds on this mega
event Tuesday.
A $100 bet would pay
out $750 if Miss
Puerto Rico were to
win.
Miss Puerto Rico,
Ingrid Rivera,
engages in plenty of
community work.
"I'm proud when I
can help canalize
efforts with others
in order to
contribute to the
betterment of the
society beyond daily
chores," Rivera
stated. "I’ve
been recognized for
community work back
home and it's a huge
responsibility to be
seen as a role
model. But the
gratifying part when
you give your time
towards making a
difference in
someone"s life is
when that person
looks at you with a
smile, hugs you or
thanks you. It feels
amazing! During this
year, I was an
active member in the
fundraising for
Hogar El Consuelo
and for El Hogar
Ruth. Also, I
participated and
contributed in the
auction and
fundraising for the
Salvation Army. I'm
working with
Walgreens on the
project ‘Inner
Beauty for the
Community‘ where we
recognize the
efforts made by
responsible,
committed
individuals and
promote this kind of
action among Puerto
Rico’s 78
municipalities."
And Miss Puerto Rico
is not afraid to get
down and dirty with
vagrants either.
"I had the
interesting
opportunity to have
the leading role in
a movie where I had
to play a homeless
person! For this I
had to change
everything. My hair,
nails, eyebrows,
clothing, shoes,
make-up, even the
places I went to! It
was very challenging
and I learned a lot
from this experience
and about the
different motives
that drives someone
to the streets. I
identified myself
with this cause and
began helping a
place where the
homeless are taken
care of, by giving
them food."
Though not listed
among
Gambling911.com's
Jenny Woo's Top 10,
Operations Manager,
Payton O'Brien,
believes Ingrid
Rivera is a steal.
"+750 odds for Miss
Puerto Rico promise
a windfall should
she win and the
oddsmakers are
unanimous that she
is the second
favorite," O'Brien
said, acknowledging
that Miss Venezuela
is typically the
favorite no matter
what. "It's
like the Yankees or
Red Sox being
favored to win the
World Series at the
start of each year.
The perception is
that Miss Venezuela,
who has had quite a
bit of past success
in this contest has
the best chance of
winning. It
doesn't necessarily
mean she is the most
beautiful."
Last year's Miss
Universe - Miss
Japan - shocked the
gambling world by
winning as a huge
underdog, thus
prompting the Miss
Universe pageant to
become one of the
most highly
anticipated betting
events in modern
time.
