CNN has determined very early on that Mike Huckabee has won the Iowa Caucus for the Republicans. Huckabee has come out of nowhere in recent weeks to win in Iowa. The big loser: Mitt Romney, who spent a fortune on advertising in Iowa compared to Huckabee, who is widely believed to have much less cash on hand. Only 15 per cent of the precincts reported in when CNN made its announcement, an indication that Huckabee's win in Iowa was a landslide victory. Mitt Romney is likely to run into some serious difficulties if he cannot win in New Hampshire. Presently, John McCain is leading in the "Live Free or Die" state. Romney was coming in second place by quite a margin while Fred Thompson, John McCain and Ron Paul were trying to grab 5th place in this Caucus race. Fred Thompson appeared to have a slight edge for third place with 25 per cent of the vote in at 9:05 pm EST The Democrats had no sure front runner as John Edwards and Barack Obama had been switching between first and second place while Hillary Clinton mostly tied for second. The percentage points were all within one point, however. Iowans rendered their judgments in meetings at 1,781 precincts from Adel to Zwingle, in schools, firehouses and community centers where the candidates themselves could not follow. Huckabee was listed with 9-1 odds of becoming the next US President at Sportsbook.com paying $900 for every $100 bet. Mitt Romney had shorter odds coming into the new year, 8 to 1 odds.
