Mitt Romney/ Michael Vick '08?

Okay so 2008 US Presidential candidate Mitt Romney is not pitting dogs against one another and drowning them like Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick is accused of doing, but some dog lovers and lawmakers alike questioned Mitt's Mutt endangerments.

Seems Mitt placed his mutt, Seamus (pronounced SHAY-mus), atop his car in a kettle, driving the poor pooch on a long family vacation.  Seamus means "He who uses underhanded tactics".

Even Fox News - normally extolling Republicans and their values - wasn't all too happy over this report.  Chris Wallace of "Fox News Sunday" pretty much said "SHAYMUS on YOU Mitt Romney".

Wallace, who says he’s a dog lover, points out that Massachusetts law prohibits endangering animals in this way and asks, “what were you thinking?”

Romney's reply: Seamus jumped up there on his own and claimed he loved being on the roof of the car.

Wallace blasts Romney for "Mistreating his dog"

Sounds like a blast.  Those of us who haven't sat atop a car going 80 mph for several hours straight shouldn't try to get into Seamus' mind frame by any means.

But Romney was breaking Massachusetts law apparently.

He assured Wallace that the kennel was airtight and safe, but admits that he had no idea that he was breaking the law.

"An “airtight” dog kennel???" asked one concerned reader of Crooks and Liars

While the incident happened in the 1980's, it is gaining legs in light of the recent news involving Michael Vick, who was indicted recently for allegedly operating a cruel dog fighting ring.

Seamus has since past away and we presume is in doggie heaven, probably looking down on Mitt and asking "WTF were you thinking?"

Another respondent suggested "Romney/Vick ‘08".

Romney won this past weekend's Iowa Straw poll by more than 30%.  He continues to sit with 8 to 1 odds of becoming the next US President
