The Week 9 Monday Night Football matchup between the Tennessee Titans and Dallas Cowboys will have plenty of prop bet options. Both teams desperately need a win to keep their playoff hopes alive and they are both coming off a bye, hopefully using the down time to work on improving two of the most inept offenses in the NFL. As such, the betting total for this matchup is relatively low at 40.

This game won’t be mistaken for the Rams-Saints Sunday affair, but there is still plenty of intrigue as both teams come off their bye week with changes ahead. It would be easy to play some props with a defensive angle since both teams have been far superior on that side of the football over the first seven games. The Cowboys lead the NFL in scoring defense while the Titans rank No. 3.

And that’s why the total is just 40. Both teams have been good to under bettors this season with each playing below the closing total in five of seven games. The Titans have twice played with a closing total lower than 40 and they cashed the under both times. The Cowboys have put up their highest points total in their last two home games, scoring 40 on the Jags in Week 6 to cash the over and getting by Detroit 26-24 in Week 4, also cashing the over.

And we will see an added dimension to the Cowboys offense on Monday night with Amari Cooper inserted into the starting lineup. Management underestimated the effect the loss of Dez Bryant and Jason Witten would have on the passing game, so the club swung a deal with the Raiders to acquire the former first-round pick. Cooper and Dak Prescott had some additional time to work on routes and timing during the off week, but don’t expect Cooper to have a serious impact in his Cowboys debut.

The presence of a deep threat and No. 1 receiver will be enough to spread the defense and open holes for Ezekiel Elliott, who should have a nice game on the ground. With defenses keying on him, Zeke has been able to run for 619 yards and three scores. Toss in a threat like Cooper on the outside, and Elliott should have an easier time and will go over his rushing yards total on a prop bet.

The Titans need more from Marcus Mariota in the passing game and they’re hoping to get it after the former Heisman Trophy winner had one of his better outings of the season the last time out. His only touchdown pass in the last three games came in a loss to the Chargers in London two weeks ago when he threw for 237 yards. The bye also allowed Mariota to recuperate from a lingering elbow injury that forced him out of a game earlier this season.

It’s been a bumpy road for Mariota, Derrick Henry and the rest of the Titans offense. They rank 30th in total yards and 31st in scoring, and going against an underrated Cowboys unit isn’t going to be easy. Compounding the problem for Tennessee is the venue. The Cowboys have played their best at Jerry’s World, winning all three games while holding opponents to an average of less than 15 points per game.

Don’t expect much offense from the Titans and playing the under on their point total on a prop bet looks like a winner. Mariota has had time to heal from his ailments, but so have several Dallas defenders. Sean Lee returned to the lineup the last time out and Demarcus Lawrence is 100 percent and ready to unload on Mariota.

The Titans surrendered 11 sacks in a shutout loss to the Ravens a few weeks ago and Mariota has been taken down 18 times in the past four games. Lawrence has gone three games without a sack, however he ranks among the league leaders with 5.5 for the season after posting 14.5 last year. The Boys will be ready to tee off and Lawrence will lead the way. Taking the over on his sack total is a wager that should pay off.
