News: Ayre Hesitated on Showing Windy Tomomi
Breakage
Immediately following the unfortunate dislocation of MMA fighter Windy Tomomi's ankle bone during shooting for Bodog Fight's third series, the MMA organization's founder, Calvin Ayre, questioned whether they should show the gruesome injury.
"We will look at the footage later and decide if this is something we want to televise," he said.
Sports911.com can reveal that the footage presented by Bodog Fight was relatively tame compared to what was really transpiring.
"They did not show the actual snap nor the footage of Windy in truly excruciating pain where she was flailing around the mat," said Sports911.com Publisher, Christopher Costigan, who was present during this fight. "Medical assistance was there within minutes and began administering Windy with intravenous pain killers."
While most of the participants at FighterGirls.net felt the Bodog Fight presentation was not exploitive, Ayre did receive some bashing (something he's grown used to over the years).
"That is seriously disturbing crap," wrote one angry reader. "Lucky for the greaseball owner of Bodog that this was an online show taped out of the country. if it was don for broadcasting in the U.S., he no doubt would have much more crap that a couple of posts in fightergirls. Well it looked like the fans got their money's worth. how many damned times did that producer show that broken leg any way? Pure unadulterated crap."
The discussion also featured Rosi Sexton, who defeated Windy in the fight that has everyone MMA fan talking.
"As for the injury itself. I felt pretty bad about it, and yeah, I didn't sleep too well for a couple of days. There are times when I hate this sport, and this was one of those - after that I thought a lot about why I'm doing this and what my motives are.
"At the end of the day, we are professional fighters. Each of us knows the risks when we get in there. I go into every fight knowing there's a possibility that i'm not coming out in one piece. Easy for me to say, because as it happened it wasn't me with the broken ankle. But I sincerely hope that if it does ever happen to me, I would react as professionally and courageously as Windy did. She is a true fighter, and deserves respect as such."
In an exclusive interview with Windy Tomomi's manager, Shu Hitrata, Sports911.com was advised that Windy will be entering a comeback fight with Pancrase, a mixed martial arts organization founded in Japan in 1993, probably in September.
A September appearance would be extraordinary. The grisly dislocation occurred during taping for Bodog Fight Series 3 in March against Dr. Rosi Sexton. Windy remains hospitalized in Japan after three surgeries and is due to be discharged May 17.
