It is crunch time for the Boston Red Sox as they try to make up ground on the New York Yankees in the AL East. We’ve been waiting all season for the defending champions to put a run together and it just hasn’t happened.

Now would be a good time considering the teams play eight times in 11 days. The Yankees make their first trip to Fenway Park this season for a four-game series that opens on Thursday night. After taking two of three from AL Central leading Minnesota, the Yankees own the best record in the Majors and they have a 10-game bulge in the division.

The MLB series will take place at Fenway Park in Boston, Mass., from Thursday, July 25 to Sunday, July 28. The first two games will be televised on MLB Network, Saturday’s matinee is scheduled for FS1 and the finale is ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball telecast. Recent Form

No matter who’s in the lineup, the Yankees just keep plugging away and winning games. Since a three-game losing streak in mid-June, the Bombers are a robust 25-8 surpassing the Dodgers for the best record in baseball. They haven’t lost more than two games in a row in that stretch while scoring at least eight runs in a game 15 times and reaching double figures on nine occasions. New York has played the fewest road games of any team, but they’ve been good in those outings improving to 28-18 away from Yankee Stadium after taking two of three against AL-Central leader Minnesota. Including this series, the Yanks play 20 of their next 34 on the road.

With the trade deadline fast approaching, the Sox need to make a statement to keep the existing team together. And they have a chance to do that with eight games in an 11-day span against the Yankees. Winning three games in this series is an absolute must and a sweep would be ideal. But the Sox haven’t done much to make us think they can put a run together. They are just 7-6 since the All-Star break and they dropped two of three to last-place Baltimore last week.

Probable Pitchers

The Yankees get a big break not seeing David Price in this series and the rest of Boston’s rotation has struggled. None of the scheduled starters have an ERA under 4.00 so there is a good chance we see a bunch of runs scored. New York’s Masahiro Tanaka ( 7-5, 4.00 ERA ) faces Rick Porcello ( 8-7, 5.61 ERA ) in the opener. Porcello has been brutal with an 11.65 ERA over his last four starts. He’s given up 14 hits and 11 earned runs in two starts against New York.

Friday’s matchup has lefty James Paxton ( 5-5, 4.20 ERA ) against newcomer Andrew Cashner ( 9-5, 4.19 ERA ). The Yankees have lost each of Paxton’s last four starts while Cashner is 0-2 with a 7.36 in two starts since joining the Sox.

A pair of lefties hook up on Saturday with C.C. Sabathia ( 5-5 4.50 ERA ) facing AL wins leaders Eduardo Rodriguez ( 12-4, 4.10 ERA ). With C.C.’s career coming to an end it would be only fitting that he throws more dirt on the Sox grave. His lifetime ERA is close to 5.00 at Fenway, but Sabathia is 7-5 in 19 starts.

Domingo German ( 12-2, 4.03 ERA ) is coming off his worst start of the year surrendering eight earned and three homers in 3.2 innings against the Twins. His mates got him off the hook with a stirring comeback win to improve to 14-3 in his starts. German is tied for the AL lead in wins. It’s been a rough year for Chris Sale ( 5-9, 4.00 ERA ), though things have looked better the last two outings. He yielded just six hits and two runs with 22 strikeouts over 12 innings in wins over Toronto and Tampa.

Bet Yankees vs. Red Sox at BookMaker.eu

Both teams can score and we’ve witnessed some lackluster pitching, so there’s a strong possibility we see plenty of action around home plate. There is still a chance the Sox can make this a race with 12 games left to play against the division leaders. However, there is little margin for error and I don’t see Boston winning all of them. So staying in the wild card race is what the Sox are playing for.

We haven’t seen a team dominate the season series like the Yankees have so far, winning six of the first seven meetings. This is the first series in Boston after the Yanks erupted for 29 runs in sweeping the London series last month. The pressure is on Boston to win the series and the Yankees will be happy with a split. New York’s bullpen will be the difference as they don’t let the Sox gain any ground.

NFC Championship Betting – Green Bay Packers at San Francisco 49ers

Any fan knows that the result of a regular season game is meaningless when it comes time to play the NFC Championship. But the San Francisco 49ers’ total annihilation of the Green Bay Packers in Week 12 is hard to overlook. Sure, the Pack hasn’t lost since that 37-8 setback, beating the Niners’ nemesis Seattle last week in the Divisional Round to advance to the conference title tilt in its first postseason appearance in three years. The Niners caged Aaron Rodgers and allowed very little in that November cover victory. Can Rodgers work some of his postseason magic against the heavily favored hosts on Sunday?
