Ladbrokes Online
Gambling
Ladbrokes is
the leading online gambling firm
based out of the United Kingdom.
Ladbrokes plc (LSE:
LAD) is Great Britain's largest online gambling
company. Based in Rayners Lane in Harrow,
London, Ladbrokes also operates land-based
bookmaking establishments scattered throughout
England. It is relegated from the elite FTSE 100
Index in June 2006. The company first
floated on the London Stock Exchange in 1967, when
it had an initial market capitalization of just
under £1 million. Until 23 February 2006,
Ladbrokes owned a major hotel business, including
the Hilton hotel brand outside the United States.
From 14 May 1999 to 23 February 2006 it was known as
Hilton Group plc.
Ladbrokes also owns Vernons. Founded in 1925, until
the intervention of the National Lottery, Vernons
concentrated on Football pools.
Ladbrokes has recently gone into partnership with
the Chinese government to offer the first betting
shops in China betting on the state lottery.
The company is also known as being the first
bookmaker to offer odds on a political election (the
Conservative Party leadership) in the late 1960's
and made a profit of £1400. Three years later they
took £1.6 million on the General Election – more
than on that year’s Derby. Political betting has
since become one of the most heavily covered sectors
on the Gambling911.com website. The
Gambling911.com site regularly monitors Ladbrokes
position on the 2008 US Presidential race.
On November 19, 2007,
Ladbrokes shot down rumors that two of its officers
were looking to depart the company for main rival,
William Hill.
I can put my hand on
my heart and say there is no problem," Chief
Executive Officer, Chris Bell said.
"Brian is a brilliant finance director and I would
call him a friend in a work context. He had an
approach and he looked at it. He could have taken it
but he chose to stay, which is an accolade to
Ladbrokes," he added.
Morgan Stanley
downgraded Ladbrokes early in November.
Of primary interest to
Gambling911.com outside of company news is Ladbrokes
online gambling options on football, politics and
popular UK television programs. Entertainment
novelty bets involving current affairs and various
other international events are regularly reported by
the Gambling911.com website as well.
