Cage Fury Fighting
Championships 6 - Heavy Hands - has been announced
for September 14, 2007 in Atlantic City featuring
Kimbo Slice and Tank Abbott, a bout that already has
MMA and Kimbo Slice loyalists talking. The
event is slated to take place at the Taj Mahal.
Online betting
companies took in hundreds of thousands of dollars
from the Kimbo Slice Ray Mercer bout last weekend
and expect another windfall as Cage Fury Fighting
Championships 6 - Heavy Hands - approaches.
The fight immediately follows the Week 1 NFL kickoff
for 2007.
Tank Abbott, a
former Professional Wrestler, was one of the most
feared strikers to have participated in the MMA
early on in his career. Abbott made his Mixed
Martial Arts (MMA) debut in 1995 at UFC 6 Clash of
the Titans in Casper, Wyoming.
Despite never
winning a UFC title, Abbott achieved some popularity
due in part to his displays of power and aggression.
He also gained a degree of notoriety for his
unorthodox look and fighting style, more reminiscent
of a street fighter than a martial artist. Abbott is
known for having a direct and blunt attitude in and
out of the octagon, having been quoted as saying "I
don't respect anybody, not even you" (to a UFC
reporter who queried about whether he respects his
opponents). He was also featured in UFC's Ultimate
KnockOuts 3.
His
bad boy image and tough biker look, which has much
to do with the promoters of the UFC attempting
create a villain of sorts out of Tank, have led many
people to believe that Abbott is nothing more than a
common hoodlum with a natural ability to throw
punches. In reality, he never practiced any style
called "Pit Fighting" and had been boxing for up to
13 years before his UFC debut and had been wrestling
since high school and during his years at college.
He had been coached in boxing under Jesse Reid and
Tyrone Bennett and his wrestling career began at the
age of 9 and by the age of 18 he became a Junior
college All-American.

Kevin Ferguson aka Kimbo Slice (born c. 1976) is a Miami, Florida-based underground street fighter turned mixed martial arts fighter. He has appeared in several bare-knuckle fights which have spread primarily on the Internet. It is a career Kimbo has since given up and is now putting his efforts towards being a professional mixed martial arts fighter.
Slice has worked as a bodyguard for RK Netmedia, a Miami pornography production/promotion company responsible for number of popular adult subscription websites, such as MILF Hunter and In The VIP. There is some uncertainty about his age: Rolling Stone has stated his age was 31 (in 2007), his statistics at the Cage Fury Fighting Championships 5 event said he was 33 but the announcers corrected this confirming he was in fact 31 years of age. Rolling Stone called Slice "The King of the Web Brawlers". His current bare-knuckle fighting record is 7-1. Ferguson was a star defensive player for Miami Palmetto High School in the Pinecrest area of Miami, Florida. Although he was recruited to play football in college, he went on to the University of Miami on academic scholarship and he did not play football for them.
