Kentucky Derby Results

The Kentucky Derby results are in and the favorite Big Brown has won.

This horse was listed with 3 to 1 odds at some online race books.  Gambling911.com had been monitoring the odds for Big Brown between 4 to 1 and near even across the board.  He was listed at 2 to 1 at most online race books at the start of the race.  Odds on whether Big Brown would win the Triple Crown were expected shortly at BetUS.com.

Bred by Dr. Gary B. Knapp's Monticule Farms in Lexington, Kentucky, he was sired by Grade III winner, Boundary, a son of North American Champion sire, Danzig who was a son of the 20th Century's most influential sire, Northern Dancer. Big Brown's dam was Mien, also a granddaughter of Northern Dancer through her sire, Nureyev.

Big Brown was purchased by Brooklyn, New York UPS operator Paul Pompa, Jr., hence the name Big Brown, for $190,000 at the Keeneland 2007 April Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale. Pompa turned him over to trainer Patrick Reynolds for race conditioning. Ridden by Jeremy Rose, the colt made his two-year-old racing debut on September 3, 2007 at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York, running away from the field and winning by 11¼ lengths. Owner Paul Pompa, Jr. then sold an interest in Big Brown to IEAH Stables and the new partnership sent him to the Palm Meadows Thoroughbred Training Center in South Florida under the care of new trainer, Rick Dutrow.

The Kentucky Derby is the second most bet on single day sporting event of the year in the US.  By day's end, online gambling sites were reporting record breaking signups and action.  Some websites, however, were offering a limited or nonexistent Kentucky Derby betting menu.  This is one of the rare sporting events that encourages betting so the online gambling sites eat this day up.  Hundreds of millions would be bet on the Kentucky Derby when all was said and done.

It was a sad moment for Eight Belles, the philly, who had to be euthanized after breaking both ankles.  She finished second and paid out $400 for every $100 bet to place.

Denis of Cork paid 2 to 1 for his show finish.

The odds coming into the final hour of the 2008 Kentucky Derby were available below and - needless-to-say, you can no longer bet these.
