Johnny Depp and George Clooney may be big underdogs to win this year's Oscar Award for "Best Actor". Don't tell that to either actor's loyal fan base. Among web surfers, Depp and Clooney Oscar searches have shot well over that of Daniel Day-Lewis, the favorite to win according to oddsmakers. Yahoo Buzz Bin has both leading men scoring the most number of searches. Oddsmakers see things differently, however. BetOnline.com was offering Daniel Day-Lewis at a "sick" -1600 odds. Yes, you would have to lay down $1600 just to win $100. By comparison, both Clooney and Depp at +800 odds. You would win $800 by betting $100. If only Web searches determined who was going home with the Oscar, we'd all be rich. That's not the case though. Depp played the title role of Sweeney Todd in Tim Burton's film adaptation of the musical Sweeney Todd, for which he won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor - Motion Picture Musical or Comedy. Clooney stars in Michael Clayton, which chronicles the attempts of attorney Michael Clayton to cope with a colleague's apparent mental breakdown and corruption within a major client of his law firm. --- Jordan Bach, Gambling911.com Originally published February 23, 2008 4:27 pm EST
