John McCain Presidential Odds

From Gambling911.com: Arizona Senator John McCain was originally the favorite Republican to become the next US President with 6 to 5 odds at a time when Hillary Clinton was still favored by 4 to 5

Category: Politics - Just as the news continues to unfold regarding turnover in John McCain's campaign organization, his Presidential odds have been negatively affected as well.  McCain still has better Presidential odds than all but Rudy Giuliani (3 to 1 odds) and yet to be announced candidate Fred Thompson (4 to 1 odds).

John McCain's popularity among Gambling911.com readers appears to be growing in light of news that he would be one of only a handful of Republican candidates to take part in a CNN/YouTube Republican debate now likely to be pushed back from September to some time in November.  With new strategists behind the McCain campaign, the potential is there for improvement.  McCain did not stand out in the most recent Republican debate, however.

His stance on the Iraq war, which follows closely with that of President Bush, and his position on immigration reform are believed to have had a negative affect on his campaign in recent months.  But again, his odds remain in the high single digits as of August 9, 2007.

McCain is known to frequent the casinos of Vegas, so he is hardly opposed to gambling.  While not opposed to online gambling per se, McCain has raised legitimate concerns over betting on college sports and the potential for corruption in these games.  The Senator sponsored a bill to ban Vegas betting on collegiate games, though eventually this proposed measure was shot down and Mr. McCain failed to pursue it any further.  McCain's fellow Senator in Arizona is Republican Jon Kyl, the author of online gambling prohibition and an opponent of the industry since 1998.  Some key figures in the online gambling industry are known to be supporters of McCain's bid for Presidency.
