Iranian President Ahmadinejad Counting Down to End of Israel All bets on for an Iranian air strike by year's end as Mahmoud Ahmadinejad continues his rhetoric
In a fiery speech Sunday, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that the Lebanese and the Palestinians had pressed a "countdown button" to bring an end to Israel.
"With God's help, the countdown button for the destruction of the Zionist regime has been pushed by the hands of the children of Lebanon and Palestine," Ahmadinejad said in a speech.
"By God's will, we will witness the destruction of this regime in the near future," he said. He did not elaborate.
Mr. Ahmadinejad sparked outrage shortly after coming to power in 2005 for saying that Israel should be wiped from the map. He then repeatedly predicted that Israel would disappear.
The Iranian president caused further controversy when he labeled the holocaust as a myth. He later invited several Holocaust deniers to a conference in Tehran, playing down the mass slaughter of Jews in World War Two.
