Hornets
vs. Spurs Betting
Odds
Imagine this: The
New Orleans Hornets
were a 61 to 1 long
shot to win the 2008
NBA Championship.
Considering they
were one game away
from beating the
mighty San Antonio
Spurs heading into
Monday night, this
once unlikely
scenario appears to
be a very strong
possibility.
Oddsmakers at
Bookmaker.com
believed the Hornets
would beat the Spurs
Monday, offering New
Orleans up as the -4
favorite.
The
Hornets were still
not getting much
love on the
Championship front
however.
Bookmaker.com listed
them at nearly 10 to
1 odds of winning
the Championship
(+970) heading into
Monday's game.
The Spurs now had
the longest odds -
set at 11 to 1 or
+1075 to be exact.
The
defending champions
Spurs beat the New
Orleans Hornets,
99-80 in Game 6,
staying alive and
forcing a
winner-take-all Game
7 on Monday in New
Orleans.
"That's what you
want to have, an
opportunity," said
Spurs point guard
Tony Parker. "That's
why Game 6 was huge.
We won the game and
now we have an
opportunity to win a
game on the road."
Of
note: Manu
Ginobili sank a
career playoff high
six 3-pointers en
route to his 25
points in Game 6.
His previous high
was four (done eight
other times).
Tim Duncan is
averaging better
than 27 points and
13 rebounds in
best-of-7
elimination games,
leading the Spurs to
five wins in eight
tries.
The
Hornets finished the
regular season with
a record of 56–26,
good enough for
winning the
Southwest Division.
This title was
clinched with their
win over the Los
Angeles Clippers on
April 15th, and
marks the first
division title for
the franchise. Their
record also ensured
the 2nd seed for the
Western Conference
playoffs. The
Hornets closed the
season with a 30–11
record at home along
with a 26–15 road
record. The season
marks a new record
for wins in a
season, bettering
the 1996-97
Charlotte Hornets'
record of 54–28 with
their win against
the Minnesota
Timberwolves on
April 9. It is only
the fourth time in
Hornet franchise
history that they
have won 50 games in
a season. The
Hornet's
accomplishments in
the season earned
coach Byron Scott
the NBA Coach of the
Year award.
