Next Bet: Hell's Kitchen

For Brits it's Big Brother 2007 betting and for Americans who no longer have American Idol to bet on and will only be able to place bets on one more episode of The Sopranos, there is Hell's Kitchen.

The folks at Bodog.com are betting this will be the next hot thing in entertainment gambling (find out more about Bodog.com here).

The site offers a whole menu of betting odds on the show including Who Will Win (Rock is the 2 to 1 favorite at press time); Which team will win the various challenges and Will someone get burnt this season.

Season 3 of the hit reality series debuted Monday night.

Hell's Kitchen (US) is the name of a cooking-based reality show. It is based on the original Hell's Kitchen, broadcast in the UK on ITV1 in 2004, featuring chef Gordon Ramsay.

The winner is promised a head chef position at a restaurant in the Green Valley Ranch resort and spa (currently hosting another reality show, American Casino) in Henderson, Nevada, near Las Vegas.

Reality television journalist Andy Dehnart has called Ramsay's Hell's Kitchen television series a boot camp for aspiring chefs and has stated that the show is mostly about humiliation. However, Dehnart finds the humiliation entertaining and often funny. To cite an example, he writes that Ramsay replied to a customer who asked for more pumpkin by saying, "Right. Well, I’ll get you more pumpkin and I’ll ram it right up your ****** arse! Would you like it whole or diced?" Also, after a chef, Gabe, misheard an order, forcing Chef Ramsey to repeat it, Ramsey yelled, "Would you like me to email that to your ****** BlackBerry? Move your arse!"

In Monday night's episode:

  • As per show tradition, each contestant was required to prepare their signature dish for Chef Ramsay. He declared Melissa's peppered steak and asparagus as the best.
  • The men and women were seperated into two teams: the blue team (men) and the red team (women).
  • After a disaterous (and incomplete) dinner service, Ramsay declared there was no winner but that of the two, the red team was the worst. Melissa was declared the best of the losing red team.

The first to be eliminated was Tiffany.
