Giuliani Causes Lightning to Strike During Republican Debate?

As 2008 US Presidential candidate Rudolph Giuliani discusses his stand on abortion we can't help but wonder what was going through his mind as lightning kept striking the building.

This is Carrie Stroup with the strange but true Republican debate out of New Hampshire that had quite a few of us scratching our heads.

Lightning kept hitting the building during Giuliani's response.  Could a Higher Power have been trying to send a message?

Just as Giuliani began defending his pro-choice stand on abortion rights against criticism by a Roman Catholic bishop, that's when the lightning started zapping through the sound system.

'I guess I'm here by myself,' Giuliani quipped after a loud buzz momentarily interrupted the sound system. He turned around, then looked skyward as the audience broke out laughing.

'For someone who went to parochial schools all his life, this is a very frightening thing that's happening right now,' he said.

Debate host Wolf Blitzer of Cable News Network (CNN) reassured Giuliani, an Italian-American, that the disturbance was caused by lightning from a thunderstorm near St Anselm's College, a Catholic university that hosted the debate in the northeastern state of New Hampshire.

Giuliani, on stage with nine other hopefuls for the centre-right nomination, went on to defend his position that abortion should be a woman's choice - a controversial stand in his mostly conservative party.

'My view on abortion is that it's wrong,' he said, 'but that ultimately government should not be enforcing that decision on a woman.'

The lightning keeps on zapping.

Here are the latest Republican Presidential candidate odds to win the 2008 election:
