The Many Ways NBA Has Embraced Legal Sports Betting

Sports Handle has an excellent report on changes in the NBA that have come about specifically due to legalized sports betting.

These including having to report lineups 30 minutes before tipoff, establishing an "official league data" feed, and the lobbying of a 0.25 percent integrity fee.

So far, no jurisdiction has passed a law requiring payment of a “royalty,” but laws in both Tennessee and Illinois did include a data mandate.

Children Spent “Hundreds of Pounds” on Gambling Loot Boxes

England’s Children’s Commissioner (CCO) wants tighter controls over gambling after a report found youngsters are spending hundreds of pounds on in-game purchases via so-called loot boxes.

The report has stated that 93 per cent of the UK children participate in playing video games with the Children’s Commissioner Office (CCO

The amount spent on loot boxes can vary with some spending more than £300 in one year.  Many of the children likened the loot boxes to gambling in that they do not know the contents and often times they are left feeling empty.

The most egregious illustration is within the football game FIFA where children hope to receive player packs to help improve their game but are unaware of what is contained in the pack.

What you’ll see on the ballot when you go to vote in Colorado:

“Shall state taxes be increased by twenty-nine million dollars annually to fund state water projects and commitments and to pay for the regulation of sports betting through licensed casinos by authorizing a tax on sports betting of ten percent of net sports betting proceeds, and to impose the tax on persons licensed to conduct sports betting?”

We suspect a good number of people will only see the "Shall state taxes be increased" without understanding how they will be increased and who will pay.

The opposition is limited to this amendment, which would grant sports betting at specified existing casinos in the state and potentially allow for mobile sports wagering as well.
