The Los Angeles Dodgers come into this affair having clearly made their mark on the 2021 MLB season. With a 106-56 record to end the season, they easily beat out the Padres, Rockies, and Diamondbacks, in the NL West. The rest of baseball with exception of the Rays, (100 wins) were not close, not slightly in the ballpark, not even kind of!

This Dodgers team was tough minded, they battled all season long and they were a juggernaut. The San Francisco Giants… Who would have think it! For the Giants, it was an amazing season that unfolded like nobody had imagined. Absolutely nobody predicted the Giants to finish with more than 100-wins on the season. They were better than good, they were nothing short of amazing, however, as good as they were, the Dodgers finished 1-game out.

It seems easy to speak of an amazing season for the Giants and not mention the Dodgers in the same breath. Baseball fans have come to expect greatness from the Dodgers with nothing but surprise when looking at a 107-55 record from the Giants. Does this mean the Dodgers and Giants are “super teams” and destiny is on their side? Ha, destiny is never on the side of the Dodgers, they earn their stripes, they earned it last season, the year before, and they have earned it for years. Credit must be given to the Giants for finding a way to stay hot all season long.

What About the Cardinals?

We have said all of the great things about the Dodgers and the Giants but what about the Cardinals, do they deserve to be in this wild card game against a team that ended the season with 16-more wins? Let’s take it a step further…

The Cardinals put together the seasons best winning streak and the best winning streak that MLB has seen in decades. While that was amazing, let’s pretend for a moment – the streak never happened and give the Cardinals credit for playing .500 baseball during the 17-game stretch with a 9-8 record. All of a sudden, the 90-72 record the Cardinals posted - becomes 82-80.

Baseball is a funny game indeed! Streaks happen, teams get hot, pitchers get hot, and all of a sudden, teams are making a playoff run and find themselves in a wildcard game. We are NOT saying the Cardinals are not worthy, however, they would have lost every division in the American League, as well as the wild card.

Prediction:

ERA’s are king in this matchup and with Wainwright’s 3.05 and Scherzer’s 2.46, we have to believe in pitching over hitting. This one looks like a 3-2, 4-2, 4-1, or even a 4-3 kind of game.

Dodgers -216 / Under 7

Again, baseball is a funny game and in a one-game series, anything can happen. Tonight, we must give the edge to the second-best team in baseball with a 106-56 record. Can the Dodgers be beaten? YES, they can be, and they were, 56 times! The Cardinals have been on a tear and have more than earned their way into this game.
