Eddie Alvarez Bodog Fight Odds Have 23 Year Old Heavy Favorite

Should Eddie Alvarez lose his bout against challenger Matt Lee, the payout could prove extraordinary.  It's the first ever MMA fight on US soil for BodogFight and Bookmaker.com  has posted odds of -750 for Alvarez, making him a huge favorite.   Lee would pay out $550 for every $100 bet.  With a maximum bet of $500, the potential payout here is $2750 on an Alvarez upset.

MMA betting has become a phenomenon fueled by a hodgepodge of fight events in recent weeks.  June traffic for Sports911.com was up 67% over last year during the same period, with the MMA betting news playing a key role in this jump.

Lee defeated Alvarez' trainer Stephen Haigh (4-2-0) by decision in March of '06. Now, the former Bodog Fight welterweight champion is looking forward to settling the score.

"It's not so much him beating my trainer as much as him beating someone from The Fight Factory," Alvarez told the Bodog Beat, a website tied to the fight organization. "I have a lot of pride in my school. It's something I'm glad to be a part of and I don't like it when guys from the school are beat. For this match, I want to get one back for the team."

"I'm sure he's evolved as a fighter," Alvarez continued. "He's got pretty good boxing. He's well-rounded and really durable. He's hard to finish and that poses a challenge for me because I love to work to finish guys like that. I've been against a lot of guys who've been hard to finish, and I've managed to finish them so it will be a good challenge for me to get in the ring with him and try to take him out. I feel good. Training camp went really well. I feel stronger than ever. I think I'm bigger coming into this fight than I ever have been. I'm ready to go. I can't wait to fight at home again."

The native Philadelphian has 9 wins, 1 loss.

The fight takes place 7:30 pm ET Saturday Night July 14 in beautiful Trenton, New Jersey (cough, cough) at Sovereign Bank Arena.
