Detroit Lions
Improve Their
Chances of Winning
in 2008/2009 With
Caleb Campbell
The
Detroit Lions saved
the day with their
final pick of the
NFL Draft 2008 and
that selection went
to Caleb Campbell of
Army.
The
Lions had the extra
pick from an earlier
trade with the New
Orleans Saints.
Campbell was the
most inquired about
Draft pick by late
Sunday afternoon.
Campbell has size
and is a very smart
player. He has
strong safety skills
and can come up in
the box and make
plays. His coverage
skills are
underappreciated. A
new rule allowing
military academy
grads to go straight
to the NFL and delay
their service may
have helped him get
drafted. He is the
poster child for
Army football.
Called by the
athletic department
one of most
physically gifted
players to pass
through the Army
program in recent
years, the Cadets
will surely miss
their most
consistent defensive
player. He started
38 of 43 games
during his career
and despite playing
well off the line of
scrimmage, he
finished his career
with 307 tackles,
the ninth-best total
in school history.
The
Detroit Lions odds
of winning the 2009
Super Bowl have
shortened somewhat
since opening at
100/1. They
were listed at 65/1
coming into Draft
Day Saturday.
It was unclear
whether the
oddsmakers at
Super Book
would be shortening
Detroits odds
further as of press
time April 27.
