David Cook the New Favorite to Win American Idol

David Cook was posted as the new favorite to win Season 7 of American Idol this week for the first time.  Until now, young Utah native David Archuleta has remained the slight favorite.  Heading into the Top 6, Archuleta was still at even odds  A $1 bet pays out $1

Cook was only a small favorite, requiring a $7 bet to win $5.  American Idol gamblers would received their initial $7 bet back only if he were to win.

Kathryn (Kathy) Nichols of Associated Content perhaps summed it up best:

His April 15, 2008, appearance on "American Idol" was yet another in a series of outstanding performances. As one of the Final Seven, once more he's had an incredible night, this time singing Mariah Carey's "Always Be My Baby."

In a word: amazing.

Carly Smithson had the next shortest odds, paying $15 for every $25 bet.

Jason Castro and Brooke White would pay out $25 for every $1 bet if either were to become the next American Idol.

The oddsmakers have little hope for Syesha Mercado, who would pay out $50 for every $1 bet.
