David Cook's Goose
Could be Cooked in
American Idol as a
Bottom Three
Appearance PossibleDavid Cook is in danger of being voted off Thursday night's American Idol results show, as shocking as this may sound. The close second favorite to win it all after David Archuleta appears to have had the third or fourth lowest vote total according to DialIdol. It does look like Carly Smithson and possibly Syesha Mercado have the best chance of being voted off Thursday, however. It wasn't as if David's performance was bad Tuesday night - it just wasn't as good as the others, including regular bottom burner Kristy Lee Cook (no relation) who saved her best for this week. From Associated Content: The performance itself then. When you do choose a lesser known song, you've got to make sure you put up an outstanding performance, something the crowd will remember you by. And that's where it all went wrong. No fancy vocal parts, rather boring song, walking through the crowd, trying to play the camera, it all worked against him and looked very amateuristic at best. At this stage, where popularity alone won't cut it anymore, a performance this weak might cost him dearly. He even seemed to realize when facing the judges that this wasn't his best performance by far and almost looked guilty by listening to their verdict. In a nutshell, it was good but forgettable. Assuming David Cook sticks around for another week - which we think he will - we can probably expect a knockout performance next Tuesday. And it's not as if we couldn't see this one coming. David has had several stellar weeks in a row (unheard of for even the best of the Idol wannabes). Already, favorite David Archuleta has had two bombs amongst his moments of brilliance. Both Davids have developed enough of a fan base that one bad performance shouldn't result in getting voted off, though it is a precarious situation coming into Thursday evening's show.
Also potentially in the bottom this week will be Michael Johns. He and David Cook seemed to have around the same vote total. Kristy Lee Cook and Jason Castro have seen the bottom three already (Kristy more than a few times) but that won't be happening this week. Castro's performance was among the most memorable, singing an uptempo version of "Over the Rainbow" - probably his best so far this season.
