7We said it last week after David Cook performed a fantastic rocking version of Lionel Richie's "Hello" - David Cook could win American Idol Season 7. Last week Cook was listed with 50 to 1 odds of winning. A $1 bet heading into last week's performance show would pay $50 if he pulls off the victory. This week, his odds were slashed to 10/1 but that is still a $10 payout for every $1 bet at Big Juicy . Following his Tuesday night performance of "Eleanor Rigby" during Paul McCartney/John Lennon Night, Judge Simon Cowell called it "brilliant" and predicted "if this were a talent contest and not a popularity contest, you could win this thing". "Eleanor Rigby" is a song by The Beatles, originally released on the 1966 album Revolver. The song was primarily written by Paul McCartney, although John Lennon claimed that "the first verse was his and the rest are basically mine." Pete Shotton, a close friend of Lennon who was present at the time, said "Though John (whose memory could be extremely erratic) was to take credit, in one of his last interviews, for most of the lyrics, my own recollection is that 'Eleanor Rigby' was one 'Lennon-McCartney' classic in which John's contribution was virtually nil." McCartney also says that Lennon helped on about "half a line." It remains one of The Beatles' most recognizable and unique songs, with a double string quartet arrangement by George Martin, and striking lyrics about loneliness. The song continued the transformation of the group, started in Rubber Soul, from a mainly pop-oriented act to a more serious and experimental studio band. Cook's arrangement with its superb modern day hard rockin' beat that reminded us a lot of Chris Daughtry, but maybe better. Expect his odds to be cut dramatically after this week, though he'll probably still have value.
