Dancing With the Stars Ratings Up

One of the few television shows witnessing a ratings climb over past seasons is this season's installment of Dancing With the Stars.  The popular dance competition continues to perform well in the ratings race unlike the current trend whereby once big name shows have begun to see their viewers decline.

Case in point: American Idol.

All the talk this season surrounding Idol has been its ratings freefall in recent weeks, not about who will win, though many suspect viewers already feel comfortable as to who will be in the final two that the last few installments haven't really been worth watching.  Idol experts are already talking about oversaturation.

Betting on both shows remains steady, at least when it comes to odds inquiries.  Dancing With the Stars betting has actually increased.

Online gambling websites cut back on what was a popular betting activity over the past two seasons of Idol: Who would be voted off.  Maybe because last season was so unpredictable.  This season has been relatively predictable with the notable exception of Michael Johns premature elimination.

Dancing With the Stars ratings may be up as a result of keeping things relatively short and simple when compared to American Idol's long drawn out season and three night a week format early on.  Because, like Idol, this season of Dancing With the Stars has been relatively predictable.

Who really thought Kristy Yamaguchi wouldn't be the favorite and likely winner?

American Idol Shows Signs of Over Saturation There is concern in recent weeks over plunging ratings for the Fox smash hit American Idol, now in its seventh season.  While still dominant in the ratings, the show has been losing significant viewership, and some of that might have to do with over saturation and expansion of the result show into a one hour format.
