Le Beats Frank
Shamrock: Breaks Arm
In the biggest mixed
martial arts fight
in Bay Area history,
Cung Le was set to
take on MMA pioneer,
Frank Shamrock - at
the HP Pavilion on
Saturday night.
Shamrock, aka "The
Legend," who had
never been knocked
out or submitted,
would be taking on
Cung Le as part of
the growing
Strikeforce fight
organization.
Up for grabs,
Shamrock's
Strikeforce
middleweight
championship. And that it did. Cung Le became the Strikeforce middleweight Champion when he defeated Frank Shamrock by doctor stoppage in the 3rd round due to a broken arm. Make no mistake about it, this was a great fight - all three rounds. And right up until the end there was some uncertainty as to who had won the bout before anyone knew about Shamrock's broken arm. As called by 411 Mania: Shamrock unloads on Le against the cage, spinning back fist by Le connects! Shamrock with a right and then a knee to follow up. Kick to the head by le, a combo and kick to end the round for Le all connect! Covering the fight live via the Internet, 411 Mania's Larry Csonka called the round before learning of Shamrock's broken arm: Wow, what a round. Le was commanding, but Shamrock looked to have comeback there for a while but Le secures the round late and takes it 10-9, and has the advantage 29-28. Elite Xtreme Combat, also known as EliteXC, is a U.S.-based mixed martial arts (MMA) organization. It was founded as a partnership between Showtime Networks Inc. and ProElite, Inc. and officially announced on December 14, 2006. It is headquartered in Los Angeles, California, and is fast becoming a powerhouse in the world of Mixed Martial Arts. YouTube phenom, Kimbo Slice, is now part of the EliteXC stable. The organization moves to a whole new level May 31 when EliteXC Saturday Night Fights will become the first MMA venue ever airing on U.S. network television. Both Kimbo Slice and Ken Shamrock are rumored to be fighting on the card, which at press time featured less known fighters. There are rumors the two could possibly be fighting against one another. Bookmaker.com was yet to release odds on this event, though they already had odds posted on five upcoming UFC bouts (UFC 83 through 87, respectively).
