Condi Rice new squeeze? Condoleeza on Peter MacKay like white on rice

During a morning that included a visit to a Tim Horton's (Canada's best known chain of coffee and donut emporiums), where Ms Condoleeza Rice, 51, had a half regular, half decaf coffee and Mr Peter MacKay had a medium tea, The Toronto Star saw something blossom.

"It was obvious he was smitten with one of the world's most powerful women as they exchanged a handshake and double-cheek kiss," the newspaper reported today. "The feeling appeared mutual. Rice, who has never married, repeatedly called MacKay by his first name and seemed in no rush to finish up her morning agenda."

Peter McKay is Canada's Foreign Minister but nothing was foreign about this encounter.

"This has been a lovely trip, Peter," said Ms Rice yesterday, at the end of a relaxing visit to Pictou County, Nova Scotia, the prosperous and beautiful home district of Mr MacKay, a 41-year-old bachelor.

Even The New York Times abandoned some of its usual decorousness to eye up Mr MacKay, who it described as: "the closest thing to eye candy on the diplomatic circuit."

"Tall, athletic, young, blond and recently dumped by his girlfriend, a fellow member of Parliament, Belinda Stronach, who parted with him when she switched parties, Mr MacKay does not look like your usual foreign minister," the newspaper reported. The Toronto Globe and Mail made Mr MacKay and Ms Rice one of its "Hot" items of the weekend.

Condi Rice and Peter MacKay exchange pleasantries and then some

All of which must stick in the craw of Mr Straw, whose much-anticipated second date with Ms Rice, in which he returned the favour for a guided tour of her home town of Birmingham, Alabama, with a trip to Blackburn, Lancashire, went rather badly.

"Both ministers bore the awkward air of fulfilling a rash promise made to a distant cousin at a particularly merry wedding," was how The Guardian saw the event, which was disrupted by protests and rescinded invitations. "As diplomacy, the event was distinctly strange; as theatre, it was superb," wrote Ben Macintyre for The Times.

Of course Condi is not looking so bad herself at 51.

So this begs the question, could romance be in the future for Condi and MacKay?

Sportsbook.com was considering the demand on this betting alternative and whether to offer odds on a potential Condi-MacKay "power couple" but in the meantime how about that Hillary Clinton?

Ms. Clinton swept through the Senate primaries and last we checked is listed as the 3 to 1 favorite to become the next US President at

This might not bode well with Condi.  You have odds of 60-1 of being named the next US President.  That's a payout of $60 for every $1 bet.
