CNN Democratic Debate: Thursday Night Odds Watch

Thursday night (8 pm EST) all eyes will be on the CNN Democratic Debate.  Oddsmakers, gamblers....and of course voters, will be paying close attention.  The rest of the world may be as well since odds have been influenced at various European bookmakers.  William Hill had to shut off its US Presidential odds for a while Wednesday immediately following an article that appeared on the Gambling911.com website.

In the Democratic party there are three individuals that oddsmakers have their eyes on: Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and Al Gore.  Now obviously, Al Gore has not announced his intention of running but gamblers and oddsmakers alike have allowed him to maintain single digit numbers, ahead of John Edwards.

Hillary remained the 1-3 favorite.  So far, Barack Obama showed little upward movement despite favorable press related to his recent appearances and ability to capitalize on some Clinton gaffes.

Obama was still at 7-2 odds at Sportsbook.com and 8/1 odds (listed as +800) at BetUS.com

On Thursday there was yet another surprise to come out of Vegas, where the CNN Democratic Debate is taking place.

A poll released Thursday has the Democratic and Republican presidential front-runners neck-and-neck in Nevada, suggesting that the state could once again serve as a swing state in the upcoming 2008 presidential election.

According to a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll, a general election contest pitting Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-New York, and Rudy Giuliani, the former Republican mayor of New York, would be too close to call in the Silver State.

The poll showed Giuliani receiving 47 percent of votes in the hypothetical general-election matchup with Clinton, who scored 46 points -- a statistical dead heat given the poll's 2.5 percent margin of error.

Giuliani continued to hover around 5/1 odds at Sportsbook.com and +350 or 3.5/1 odds at BetUS.com (which appears more the norm across the board) of becoming the next US President.
