Bodog Loses Precious Search RankingsOnce the leader in online gambling search rankings, Bodog.com has now been excluded from Google Search. As previously feared, the affect this will have on Bodog is of a massive scale. The company had some of the best search engine rankings in online gambling, including online poker.
Its rankings were mostly generic, but for some of the most sought after key words in the biz. For example, Bodog.com ranked among the top 10 for "Online Poker", the most popular search term on the Net, and number one for "NFL Betting Odds".
Last week, Bodog lost its domain name (www.bodog.com), the result of a default judgment obtained by 1st Technology LLC of Las Vegas, Nevada. That company claims Bodog failed to answer allegations that downloaded software used by its customers to gamble online infringed upon 1st Technology's patents. (Ayre is pictured top with one of his Bodog Fight fighters, Nick "The Goat" Thompson. The BodogFight.com website was not affected by the lawsuit.)
Additionally, Bodog is being order to pay $48.6 million in damages to 1st Technology.
Bodog is now using the domain name www.newbodog.com.
To overturn the judgment Bodog will need file a lot of motions and get a re-trial, according to Jay Westerdal of DomainTools.com.
"They will win if they get the re-trial but with Football season beginning right now Bodog is missing a lot of regular customers."
The NewBodog.com domain name appears to be a temporary solution however as Bodog has registered this name in the very state where the judgment against them was handed down, Washington. And Washington - as our long time readers already know - has a state law that makes betting online a Class C felony.
