Michael Jordan Files for Divorce

Hey ladies!  Michael Jordan is a free man.  After 17 years of marriage, he and his wife, Juanita,  have filed for divorce.

"Michael and Juanita Jordan mutually and amicably decided to end their 17 year marriage," the couple said in a statement issued through their lawyers. "A judgment for dissolution of their marriage was entered today. There will be no further statements."

Michael Jordan's lawyer, Frederick J. Sperling, declined comment.

But in court documents filed Friday with the Lake County Circuit Court, the couple said "irreconcilable differences have caused an irretrievable breakdown of the marriage." The couple said attempts to reconcile their marriage had failed and future ones "would be impractical and not in the best interests of the family."

Juanita Jordan previously filed for divorce in January 2002, but withdrew her petition a month later when the couple announced they were attempting a reconciliation.

"The co-petitioners acknowledge that although their marriage is ending, they desire to resolve all of the issues surrounding the dissolution of marriage in the most amicable, expeditious and private fashion possible, for the benefit of themselves and their children," the documents read.

Jordan, a part-owner of the Charlotte Bobcats , led the Bulls to six NBA titles and was a five-time league MVP.

NBA Best Bets: Lakers, Suns, Mavericks, Pistons Offer Great Value

It's that time of year again when we start to get a better feel for NBA best bets, some of which feature excellent payouts.  The Lakers, Suns, Mavericks, Pistons are all teams coming into their own and the payouts are good.

It is the end of December 2006 and we are going to observe some of the NBA best bets (with lines subject to change).

The Detroit Pistons - BetGameDay.com (see website here) had the Detroit Pistons with odds of 3 to 1 to win the Eastern Conference.  That's a $300 payout for every $100 bet and it is reflective of the current standings which have the Pistons with the best win record (18) and a five game win streak.  (please note that BetGameDay.com will is offering a matching signup bonus on any deposits of $50 to $200 until December 31, 2006 - i.e.  Open an account with $200, get a FREE $200 from BetGameDay to bet with)

The Phoenix Suns provide excellent value in the highly competitive Western Conference.  At 13 to 5 odds to win the Western Conference Championship, that's a $260 payout on a $100 bet.  San Antonio also pays 13 to 5 odds.  The Dallas Mavericks pay slightly better - $300 for every $100 bet.

But the Los Angeles Lakers really pay out nice - 10 to 1 odds.  The Lakers had the 5th best record in the West as of December 28.  They had won 6 of their last 10.

And how about the Utah Jazz with odds of 8 to 1 at BetGameDay.com.  That's an $800 payout on a $100 bet.  Considering the Jazz are tied with two other teams with the best record in the West - and in the league for that matter - those are great odds.  The Jazz are enjoying great value right now with a more modest win record over the past few weeks.  They are 6-4 in their last 10.

The Orlando Magic have floundered in recent weeks winning only 3 of their last 10, but with the second best record in the East, 8 to 1 odds are quite good.  The East is any team's to win, including the Cleveland Cavs with odds to win at 4 to 1.

And the team most likely to improve in these approaching weeks would have to be the Denver Nuggets, who just acquired Allen Iverson.  With a payout of $1600 for every $100 bet should the Nuggets win, this is great value for sure.

Phoenix Suns get heavy betting action verses New Jersey Nets

Nearly 85% of bettors were placing wagers on the Phoenix Suns Thursday night as the -3 road favorite verses the New Jersey Nets.

The Nets are 7-10 so far this season while the Phoenix Suns are suddenly surging.

Elsewhere, we have the Detroit Pistons against the Dallas Mavericks.

Two of the NBA’s best teams meet tonight in Dallas as the Pistons take on the Mavericks. Dirk Nowitzki and Josh Howard are leading the Mavericks who continue to remain hot. The Pistons on the other hand have lost two straight after an eight-game winning streak. "We haven't had a sense of urgency in the last two games," Detroit coach Flip Saunders said. "When you win eight in a row, you start maybe feeling too good about yourself." However, SBG Global reports that early betting action doesn’t show a “feel good attitude” about the Pistons chances on the road.

On Tuesday night, Nowitzki scored 26 points and Howard added 23 to lead the Mavericks past the New Jersey Nets 92-75. Nowitzki leads the team with 24.3 points per game, and Howard is second with 16.9. The Mavs had their 12 game winning streak end Monday night but came right back the next night and routed New Jersey.

Detroit lost 88-85 to Portland on Tuesday after a 97-89 loss to Charlotte on Sunday. The Pistons have to face Orlando tomorrow so it doesn’t get any easier for them.

Dallas and Detroit split their two games last season, with each team winning at home.

The Mavericks are a 7 point favorite with a total of 191.5 at SBG Global.

The Pistons are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games following an ATS loss.

The Pistons are 5-11 ATS in their last 16 road games vs. a team with a winning home record and they are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games as a road underdog. The numbers get worse for Detroit as you look deeper at their road games where they are 8-20-2 ATS in their last 30 road games. Detroit is also a poor dog as they are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games as an underdog.

Dallas is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 vs. the Eastern Conference. Dallas is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games. The Mavericks are 11-3 ATS in their last 14 games overall. Dallas is 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games as a favorite.
Dallas has struggled against the Central though going 1-4 ATS in their last 5 vs. the Central.

The Over is 6-1 in Detroit’s last 7 vs. the Southwest. The Under is 13-3 in Detroit’s last 16 road games. The Under is 20-6 in Pistons last 26 Thursday games. The Under is 40-17-1 in the Pistons last 58 games as an underdog.

The Under is 8-2 in the Mavericks last 10 overall. The Under is 7-2 in the Mavericks last 9 games as a favorite. The Over is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in Dallas and the over is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between the two teams.

NBA Player's Union Files Unfair Lawsuit Suit: Betting Odds Posting on Result

BetUS.com Posts Odds on NBA Reaction and Ripple Effect of Labor Suit

December 6, New York – Settling into its second month of the season, it seems the only constant thing in the NBA is change, and we’re not talking about standings and trades. No, this has more to do with rules, regulations, dress codes and equipment. The players have seen everything from a change in the ball, to a change in their dress code, to changes in what they can and can’t wear on the court, and last week they finally said enough is enough.

Sacramento Kings get no love verses Dallas Mavericks

Carrie Stroup here with three - count 'em - Three big NBA games to watch for sports bettors beginning with the Sacramento Kings verses the Dallas Mavericks.  Here we have 82% of sports bettors on the Mavs.

If you are a regular readers of Sports911.com, you realize that the vast majority of games where one team is overwhelming favored by the betting public verses the other team ultimately end up with the team that is not getting all the public money winning.  In this case we would have to seriously consider the Sacramento Kings at +7 (available at my favorite online sportsbook - what else? Sportsbook.com (see website here)

As of December 1, 2006, the Sacramento Kings were listed with 50-1 odds of winning the 2007 NBA Championship title.  The Dallas Mavs had odds of 6-1.  In other words, the Kings would pay out $50 for every $1 bet should they win the 2007 NBA Championship.  The Mavericks would pay out $6 for every $1 bet.  I was never great in math but these are numbers I can understand pretty good for darn sure.

Denver Nuggets: Heavy one-sided betting action against the Grizzlies

Carrie Stroup here with some late NBA action, specifically focusing on the Denver Nuggets who - let's face it - are playing just as well as any of the top Eastern Conference teams.

In the West though, their 8-4 record might not count for much.  There are after all teams out there with double digit win records.

New Jersey Nets get cold shoulder from bettors verses Lakers

Nearly 88% of the bets were being placed on the Lakers in their Sunday night game against the Nets.  This trend reflects New Jersey's poor showing in their West Coast trip with four straight losses capped by a horrendous performance in Phoenix Friday night.

The Lakers were a -4 1/2 favorite at BetCRIS.com (see website here)

Despite the Nets 5-7 record, New Jersey remains right in the thick of things in the Eastern Conference with only Cleveland, Orlando, Indiana and Detroit sitting above .500 (and not by all that much either).

The Nets odds to win the Eastern Conference has been lowered to 13 to 2.

Cleveland and Detroit were both listed with odds of 4 to 1 to win the 2007 NBA Eastern Conference Championship as of November 26, 2006.  The Orlando Magic, which had the second best record in the East, were listed with odds of 10 to 1 (that's a $10 payout for every $1 bet).

Utah Jazz gaining early momentum from oddsmakers

Carrie Stroup here and we can't help but notice how impressive the Utah Jazz are looking.  Sure it's still early in the 2006-2007 NBA season but here's a team that has only one loss and ten wins.  Oddsmakers at Sportsbook.com (see website here) have the Utah Jazz with odds of 15 to 1 to win the 2007 NBA Championship.  Heck, that's $1500 paid out on every $100 bet.  Where's my credit card?  Where's my electronic check?  Sorry folks, but Sportsbook.com has just eliminated the Western Union option as of today November 21.

Oh and these odds are going to change.  I see the Jazz being listed with single digit payout odds by next week.

Orlando Magic, Cleveland Cavs odds to win 2007 NBA Eastern Conference

As of November 20, 2006, the Orlando Magic and Cleveland Cavs have looked most impressive and maintain the best records in the Eastern Conference.

The 7-3 Cavs had odds of 15 to 4 of winning the 2007 NBA Eastern Conference.  That's a $375 payout for every $100 bet.  The oddsmakers haven't caught onto Orlando just yet, offering odds of 18-1 (or a $100 bet would pay out $1800).  These betting odds are courtesy of BetGameDay.com (see website here).

Orlando currently is on a 4 game hot streak.  Boston has won its last 3 but still has a 4 and 6 record.

The Miami Heat are still favored 10 to 3.

For Monday there were two very lopsided games where the betting public was placing heavy action on one side.

A whopping 92% of the early action was on the Seattle Supersonics with only 8% of the action on the New Jersey Nets while the betting public also seemed to like the Portland Trailblazers as a +7 home dog verses San Antonio.  The Nets were a +2 1/2 dog on the road.  This one opened Seattle -1 last night.

The public of course is notoriously wrong so if betting these games we would suggest a look at the Nets and Spurs this evening.

Here are the updated odds to win the 2007 NBA Eastern Conference courtesy of  BetGameDay.com (see website here).

Can the Portland Trailblazers follow NBA betting trend

Here at Sports911.com we've provided you with games where the betting public is overwhelming placing action on one side.  And nearly every time the other team has won handily against the spread.

Today we look at the Portland Trailblazers who come into Boston as a +7 1/2 dog at SBG Global (see website here).  The public is all over the Boston Celtics at an 82% clip.

Portland have lost their last three but are 4-5 on the season, which still puts them right in the thick of things.

The worst record in the Western Conference belongs to Memphis at 1-6.

We should note that there was heavy action on the Utah Jazz Friday night in Seattle with just under 70% of those betting this game putting money on the Jazz as a +4 road dog.

The Jazz sport the best record in the NBA - 7-1.

The Jazz are now listed with 15 to 1 odds of winning the 2007 NBA Championship.

Orlando Magic 35 to 1 odds of winning 2007 Eastern Conference title

The Orlando Magic practically sit atop the Eastern Conference with a 5-3 record, one down from Cleveland at 5-2.

Nine.com (see website here) lists the Orlando Magic with 35 to 1 odds of winning the 2007 NBA Championship title.  Considering this is anyone's contest to win, these are pretty good odds paying out $35 for every $1 bet.

Orlando had the bettors in its corner Wednesday night with nearly 75% on the Magic at -4 1/2 verses the Denver Nuggets at home.  That line had opened at -3 so the bookmakers aren't overly confident that Orlando can cover yet the common trend is for heavily bet "public" teams to lose.  We have been monitoring this here at Sports911.com.

The oddsmakers at Nine.com list Miami, New Jersey, Cleveland, Chicago and Detroit among the favorites to win the Eastern Conference in 2007, with Miami the 3 to 1 favorite.

New York Knicks promise to be among the worst NBA teams again this year

Oddsmakers have little mercy for the New York Knicks, who they rank dead last among teams in the NBA this season.  The Knicks, who host Cleveland and LeBron James at Madison Square Garden Monday night, are listed with odds of +30000 to win the 2007 NBA Championship.  What this means is if you were to bet $100 and the New York Knicks were to somehow win the title, you'd be looking at a $30,000 payout.  But this is just a reflection of how unlikely the Knicks are to achieve such lofty goals.

Amazingly though it is the Atlanta Hawks that for now sit atop the Eastern Conference lead.  They have odds of +8652 to win the 2007 NBA Championship (that's an $8600 payout on a $100 bet if it happens).

Sacramento Kings get no love as sports bettors all over Raptors Sunday

The Toronto Raptors come into Sacramento as a +7 dog Sunday night but more than 82% of the betting public were placing their action on the Raptors.

The Raptors were off to a 2-3 start while the Sacramento Kings came into Sunday's game sporting a 3-2 record.

The Toronto Raptors open up a five-game road trip against Western Conference opponents tonight beginning with the Sacramento Kings at ARCO Arena.

The Raptors will be facing a significant challenge in the opener of this swing as  Toronto is just 1-9 lifetime at ARCO Arena and has lost eight straight games in Sacramento. The Raptors' only win over the Kings came on March 13, 1997.

Yet this impressive stat isn't stopping the sports betting public from being all over the Raptors.

Coming into Sunday, the Sacramento Kings had 45 to 1 odds of winning the 2007 NBA Championship with Miami and Dallas still the 6 to 1 favorites to win.

The impressive 6-1 Utah Jazz had odds of 30 to 1.  That's a jump up from the early odds of 75 to 1.

And what about those Atlanta Hawks with a 4-2 start?  The Atlanta Hawks currently have 150 to 1 odds of winning the 2007 NBA ChampionshipOdds of winning the tight 2007 Eastern Conference were still set at 40-1 coming into Sunday night.

These odds are all subject to change and were as of November 12, 2006.

Lebron James walks off but Cavs still with 11 to 1 odds of winning Championship

Over the last 24 hours, Lebron James has been torn to shreds by the media who accused him of being a "baby" and "quitter" after he left for the locker room prior to the end of a game verses the Atlanta Hawks, a game the Cavs lost.

The Cleveland Cavs still had odds of 11 to 1 at VIP.com (see website here)

After missing a 3-pointer with 15 seconds left, he began walking off the floor toward Cleveland's locker room while the Hawks dribbled out the clock.
