Betting
on UFC 71: Liddell vs Jackson
UFC 71 is here and the
betting line is not as unbalanced as in recent UFC
bouts, which may not be the best thing for gamblers.
Chuck Liddell vs. Quinton Jackson offers an
interesting rematch.
Quinton Ramone
"Rampage" Jackson is an American professional mixed
martial arts fighter who rose to prominence with his
multiple fights in Japan's PRIDE Fighting
Championships. He currently competes as a light
heavyweight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
He has a professional record of 26 wins with 6
losses, and has often been seen with a trademark
heavy chain around his neck ringside and before
fights. He is known for both his trade mark slams
against people in the guard position, and his
powerful overhand strikes. He is even more
known for beating Chuck Liddell by TKO in 2003.
Chuck Liddell is
widely considered one of the best fighters in the
UFC today.
"The Iceman" is a
mixed martial artist with a background in kempo
karate , in which he holds a black belt, Koei-Kan
Karate-Do, Kickboxing and Collegiate Wrestling. He
currently fights in the Ultimate Fighting
Championship and is the UFC Light Heavyweight
Champion. He is considered by MMAWeekly.com to be
the #1 ranked 205 lb (93 kg) fighter in the world.
Liddell is primarily regarded as a somewhat
unorthodox striker (due to his relaxed "hands-down"
stance and the angles from which he throws punches),
with powerful kicks, seamless combination striking
that usually includes a trademark looping overhand
left hook, and counter-punching. He is also renowned
for his knockout power, and is considered by some to
be the hardest hitting striker at 205 pounds.
Liddell also has
very good wrestling skills, particularly his
takedown defense. He was a four year starter on the
wrestling team at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, which
has a division one wrestling program. He graduated
from Cal Poly with a degree in accounting. Liddell
has endeared himself as a fan favorite and is one of
the most popular UFC competitors. He is associated
with the Pitfight team and recently earned a Purple
Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
For fans, this UFC event will have everyone at the
edge of their seats following what many perceived to
be a few mismatches. But those so-called
"mismatches" went to the underdogs and those who had
wagers on the big dogs made out handsomely.
This time around
the odds are relatively balanced. Liddell is a
-200 favorite. By betting $2, you would
receive back $3 (your initial $2 bet plus $1 win)
assuming Chuck Liddell were to win. Quinton
Jackson pays out $2.50 for every $1.00 bet (your
initial $1 bet plus a $1.50 win) if he were to walk
away victorious.
